Not a big fan of the Disney channel right now, to be honest.
I watched the Disney Channel, but the good shows were taken out off the schedule (for example: Duck Tales). I moved on to Toon Disney...then the shows were taken off the schedule (or moved to early times that a night owl like myself doesn't go for). So now I watch those shows on DVD (Since Disney is finally not so stubborn about making DVDs for their shows).
In summary: Disney tehsuckage now, old skool ftw lolz.

I've lost faith in Disney Channel. They can't make a decent live-action show anymore, and they're giving up on animation by shipping all their regular animation to post-midnight timeslots. I don't like having to stay up until 12:30 AM to get my Kim Possible fix, though it's the only show worth watching on there.

Hate Disney. All the shows are crap and have to pay an audience to actually get the laughs. Disney is constantly trying to please the larger audience by throwing a mix of Japanese, girly-action, and "WE'RE IN HIGH SCHOOL YEAH ROCK ON THIS IS HOW HIGH SCHOOL REALLY IS CLIQUESCLIQUESCLIQUESCLIQUESCLIQUESCLIQUES"

If Disney had kept to cartoons and did not view all their viewers the same, they might be getting more attention from people like me. Instead of being original and staying at what they were good at, they decided to look at what everyone else was doing and try to copy them as much as possible.

Disney Channel used to be awsome!!! I don't have it anymore but I have watched some of the shows on dailymotion and for the most part they suck.

My faves were Boy Meets World and The Wonder Years (though I had to stay up late to see that one)

I love Disney, but I hate Disney Channel. All the new and new-ish shows (with the exception of Kim Possible) just seem to be a waste of my time. I only really watch it for the retro bits that are on every once in a while (Boy Meets World, My Little Mermaid, Alladdin) but I record them, anyway, so I can fast forward through the Disney Channel propaganda that is shoved down my throat every commercial break.

Only good thing about the channel itself is that Jason Marsden does some of the narration bits.

Mmm. Jason Marsden.

I thought some of their movies were good when I started watching them, they gave decent messages and had interesting plots...but now they've become overly similar.
I guess I like how they have their own set cast, so if you like a show it's nice to see them in another movie/show, however sometimes the channel tries to show them off as better actors than they really are.
As for the shows, the only one that I ever enjoyed a lot was Filmore!. A CSI for kids should in concept suck, but this show not only made it work, but it was halarious too.

I used to love Disney, especially when they made the animated movie, Mulan. God, I loved that movie. Mulan is sooo different from the usual Disney leadinf females.

Now, it has crap like "High School Musical" representing it. I seriously can't see why everyone loves it. It's the biggest pile of tripe I've ever seen.

I could go one all day about my hatred for it and why. Don't even get me started!

But I suppose Kim Possible is good. my only exception.

Agreed, people all rave about HSM as if it's the best new film in ages. It's not, it's just that musical cinema has become as barren as the originality of a DC original movie...

Disney channel can be ok...but the canned laughter pisses me off! Sometimes there are quite good puns, like when the nuns in TSLOZ&C had a ringtone going 'Hallejuh!' and then they picked up the phone and said "Bless you for calling!"...that was ok

Once Disney Channel (and later Toon Disney) started to drop the majority of their original (and good) animated shows, I stopped watching. And it certainly doesn't help that I was never a huge fan of Disney in the first place either. I haven't liked a Disney movie (exluding Pixar) since Lion King.

Wtf?

On topic though, I somehow found myself watching Highschool Musical 2 a few days ago... Ever since then my eyes and ears have yet to stop bleeding.

*Edit:* Don't ask me how I was able to type this post. It was magic. The magic of Disney?

Anyone remember "So Weird"?

That was the best show on Disney.

Hell yes, one of the most worthwhile shows on Disney. When I look back, it was pretty mature for a "kid's" program.

It's a despicable network, shoving propaganda down the throats of children and never once digging deeper than the shallow surface.

Disney sucks, their channel sucks and their programmes, movies and merchandise suck. Mainly because they promote saccherine, moralistic sappy crud.

There. Got that out of my system.

I don't know if this is old news, but after thinking about it, doesn't Disney just re-hash stories/myths/legends of different cultures and promote them as new movie, with subtle Americanization.

i.e.

Aladdin ... from Arabian Nights
Hunchback of Notre Dame ... original novel by French author Victor Hugo
Snow White ... European origin, collected by the Brothers Grimm
Beauty and the Beast ... European fairy tale
Mulan ... based off a Chinese legend
Pocahontas ... based off the pseudo-myths of a real-life Pocohontas

I knew Aladdin, Pocahontas, and the Hunchback were definitely taken from other sources, but I found the other ones after wiki'ing them. Obviously, I can go on and on and list other movies, but you get the point. Interestingly, there are claims that even the Lion King is not originally Disney, but in fact based off of a Japanese television show from the '60s (check wikipedia for that one).

Talk about originality.

They've always been public domain whores. You probably would've been better off naming movies that weren't based off of the works of others. Most of them are well known, but there is the slightly more obscure Lion King/Kimba the White Lion connection you alluded to. (The Simpsons actually made a joke about that in the episode where Bleeding Gums Murphy passed on. "You must avenge me Kimba.... I mean, Simba.") It seems like any "good" movie they make isn't theirs, and when they try to be original, it sucks.

That's why people aren't too happy about all their efforts to prevent their material, some of which should be WELL into the public domain by now, about all of their Congressional lobbying to extend the lifespan of their copyrights. Were it not for the public domain, Disney wouldn't be nearly as popular or successful, and here they are fighting against a practice that made them what they are.
