There is no way to say that Near was a good character, yes he is younger, yes he does sound different, yes he is 'cunning' but all in all he was just a bad L rip of with slightly altered mannerisms. He did beat light, but it's fiction and he's still a bad character, he only beat him because there is no way they would have a mass murdering psychopath be the victor.

L was a good character because he was original, the only thing bad about him is his legion of retarded fangays who worship him as if he actually exists but Near was just a pointless sack of dicks that should never have been introduced. light would have won if ryuk had done what he said. it was all on ryuk to decide the outcome.
That's just retarded, that wouldn't have been light winning that would have been him admitting defeat and being a pussy, all the way though Death Note was about tactics and light lost in the end. Ryuk was never on anyones side anyway

I personally don't really like Near or Mello. Well, Near is okay, even if he is a big-headed twit, but I really don't like Mello. He didn't deserve what he got, though. And if it wasn't for Mikami, Light would have won. Mikami was just stupid. Well, then again, if he was smart, Light could have just told him to keep a sheet on him for occasions like that... but oh well.

Fun fact: Near was supposed to be Mello and Mello was supposed to be Near. There was a mistake in printing that caused the names to be mixed up, and the artist just went with it. But, I'm sure you knew that...

L should not have died. i think if he had faked his own death like he had done in the movie. it probably would have been okay to still introduce near and mello. yeah it might be a lot of people working on the case and would not be necesary, but still okay in my opinion.

I think the movies are really good and the actors are great. The only thing that bugged me a little was that Misa had black hair instead of blonde. I mean, if the actress did'nt want to dye her hair (which is very understandable) she could have used a wig...

there is a video on youtube where it seems there are hidden 'after stories' that appeared in Japan recently
this one video had some one proclaiming that ryuk is talking to here it comes

I'm not saying Death Note sucks, it's a great series and all. But seriously: Can a series be this overrated?
People always so "Death note is the best series ever! They are so smart!" etc. etc.
There are hundreds of other series out there which are better than death note.
For example Code Geass. In death note they make everything into such a big deal when they do one simple move. In Code Geass they dont over dramatise every single move they do. They just do it and get over it. Death Note overdid everything.
For example *Beware spoilers* In the first episodes when L located where Light was located, they made it into such a big deal and he started explaining how he did it, and then Light fell into despair etc.

Well i guess my rant is complete. It's a great series and i recommend it for anyone that hasn't seen it. But it's not nearly one of the greatest series out there, but still it's worth looking at.

I don't see why everyone has to complain over the fact that Mello and Near resemble L. It's not like it's a mistake, they're meant to be somewhat like L, beacause they're his "heirs". In "How to read 13", Obata says that the only instruction he got from Ohba for the design of Mello and Near was to put " a little bit of L" in them. Come on, it's not THAT bad.

It's not so much the ending of the series I hated, but how they changed it so *Cough* dies peacefully in his own time, yet they still killed Matt! Matt kicked ass, and he was a much better successor to L than Near or Mello. And he died from gunshots...in Death Note thats almost as embarrassing as stabbing yourself with a pen.

Exactly. He needed a bigger part in the story, but that's just my opinion. One thing I liked about him, is that he kept up with the running 'L tradition' of odd quirks, though his was a little less quirky. L eats sweet things all the time, Near plays with a variety of toys every waking moment, Mello munches chocolate, and Matt very rarely can be seen without a video game controller in his hand, or at least according to Ohba.
