Hi all.

The name's Elliot.

Myself, and two friends/classmates are working on a Yu Gi Oh Abridged Documentary for our final project. The idea is that we are going to explore the whole timeline of the series from when it came to creation, to its move to Revver.

As such, a chapter of our documentary is based around the fans and their general reactions to the series when it first came out. What were your thoughts? How did you all feel about the series? How did you get into it?

Moreover, we also have a chapter about the fans vs youtube and the controversy surrounding LittleKuriboh's ejection from the video streaming site. We'd love to have what people's thoughts were on the matter, so that we could perhaps quote some of you during the sequence.

Of course, everyone who gets into the video would receive a spot in the ending credits of the video. Even though this is a class project, we'd really love the community to be involved with it, and despite it all, we'd also love for the documentary to stand on its own.

I do apologize if this is the wrong area, but this seemed like the best place to get the most traffic.

Anyways, the questions are:

1. When Yu Gi Oh Abridged was first Released, what were your thoughts? How did you find it?
2. What are you feelings on youtube's copyright rules, and their apparent lack of interest in fair use?
3. What did you do when Little Kuriboh had to leave youtube?
4. Any thoughts in general on Yu Gi Oh Abridged?

If we could get as many people to comment as possible so we could have a large amount of material to draw from, we'd be greatly appreciative.

Thanks everyone! Yu Gi Oh Abridged ROCKS! [smiley1]

1. When Yu Gi Oh Abridged was first Released, what were your thoughts? How did you find it?

Funny outlook on a adults anime which was turned into a kids cartoon.

2. What are you feelings on youtube's copyright rules, and their apparent lack of interest in fair use?

Quite unrealistic but all they are doing is trying to stay out of legal trouble.

3. What did you do when Little Kuriboh had to leave youtube?

Looked around for his website, usually when some one gets big on youtube they make their own website.

4. Any thoughts in general on Yu Gi Oh Abridged?

Very entertaining LittleK did alot of work to bring the public this series. For that he should be thanked.

I got into the anime when i was watching another youtube video about a fellow who makes videos about lego men. He submitted a video about people vs youtube and talked about Little Kiriboh and his abridged series. In my curiosity I searched for theses videos only to no luck, realising that this guy must be popular I searched for a webiste only to come across this, when watching the videos I found them quite entertaining.

Thats just a brief story on how I become a "fan" of the series.

1. When Yu Gi Oh Abridged was first Released, what were your thoughts? How did you find it?
I thought it was hilarious. I found it while searching for Yu-Gi-Oh! on Youtube and it looked interesting so I checked it out.
2. What are you feelings on youtube's copyright rules, and their apparent lack of interest in fair use?
I think that Youtube was really stupid for removing LittleKuriboh. That's all I have to say.
3. What did you do when Little Kuriboh had to leave youtube?
I started going to go to his LiveJournal to stay informed on the latest Abridged episodes and videos.
4. Any thoughts in general on Yu Gi Oh Abridged?
Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. It's funnier than some of the shows on TV today.

1. When Yu Gi Oh Abridged was first Released, what were your thoughts? How did you find it?
I thought this was the best thing I had ever seen . Found it last year looking for the last episode as i had missed it.Tristan's voice gave him the power to bring in veiwers!
2. What are you feelings on youtube's copyright rules, and their apparent lack of interest in fair use?
I think it is ridiculous. There are thousands of people each day making fun of mario, briney spears, ect.!
that was a huge mistake on thier part to ban LK!
3. What did you do when Little Kuriboh had to leave youtube?
when I realised he had been kicked off of youtube i desperatly searched for more. And here I am.
4. Any thoughts in general on Yu Gi Oh Abridged?
I think his original ideas like super special awsome, brooklyn accents, and proud american/canadians was SUPER SPECIAL AWSOME. And to boot, it has inspired others to get creative and mke an abridged series of their own! And just look at how it has brought people from around the world to become compenpals!
And that is how I feel

1) I believe one of my friends from another forum introduced the series to me some six or seven months ago; maybe even further back. I found the first episode I watched (which may or may not have been the actual first episode) to be extremely funny and went back and forth in the series. I did stop watching at a point in time, but I returned to it about two months ago, and I've done my best to keep up with it ever since.

2) I really only watch the series on this site. I don't know very much about the copyright rules for YouTube, but I would like to know more about this "apparent lack of interest in fair use"; I was not aware of it.

3) I never knew he had to leave YouTube...perhaps I haven't been watching long enough, or it happened when I'd taken a break from the series. I apologize if this isn't very helpful...

4) By all means, this is the funniest video series I've ever seen before. I would certainly like to see more of it in the near future. I'm always looking forward to new episodes.

1. When Yu Gi Oh Abridged was first Released, what were your thoughts? How did you find it?

It made me lul becuase it was original, it has since gone downhill although the most recent dan green thing mocking other abridged series is the best thing he's done so far ever.

2. What are you feelings on youtube's copyright rules, and their apparent lack of interest in fair use?

BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

3. What did you do when Little Kuriboh had to leave youtube?

Nothing, as every streaming site in the world had the videos up anyway.

4. Any thoughts in general on Yu Gi Oh Abridged?

It's awesome and will always be the best abridged series as it was the first and the therefore the most original in all aspects.

Even if you don't think your thoughts are very useful, believe me, they are. The fans are just as important as the series itself, at least for this documentary.

Again, thankyou all for being so co-operative. ^_^;

Don't know if you're still taking contributions, but I thought I might as well.

1. When Yu Gi Oh Abridged was first Released, what were your thoughts? How did you find it?
I actually found it by dumb luck, like with many other things. I was bored searching random pages in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki and found it. I watched all of the episodes (Somewhere around Ep.27 being released) and I love this series.
2. What are you feelings on youtube's copyright rules, and their apparent lack of interest in fair use?
Its unfair. If the Abridged Series doesn't violate laws and falls under the loophole with parodies, they should've let them stay.
3. What did you do when Little Kuriboh had to leave youtube?
Again, I joined the fandom way after that (There are new fans made each day ). I was happy that others started posting the episodes on YouTube again. Its also great that this site was made and that the series became a podcast. It is so much more accesible. Honestly, YouTube might've done everyone a favor. The haters rot in YouTube and we get this!
4. Any thoughts in general on Yu Gi Oh Abridged?
Sure. Its great. Its really original and mind-blowing. Sadly, it is a slowly growing sensation. I must be one of the few people I know who actually checks this place daily for updates. Some people are just rash in judging. Just because it's based on Yu-Gi-Oh! doesn\'t mean that its bad!!

1. When Yu Gi Oh Abridged was first Released, what were your thoughts? How did you find it?

I actually didn't see the series until somewhere around mid-2007. Somebody linked it on a messageboard I frequent, and I've been hooked ever since.

2. What are you feelings on youtube's copyright rules, and their apparent lack of interest in fair use?

I think it's screwed up, but oh well. YouTube's loss.

3. What did you do when Little Kuriboh had to leave youtube?

Followed everybody over here.

4. Any thoughts in general on Yu Gi Oh Abridged?

It's the most hilarious thing I've ever seen. I can always count on LK for a good laugh, especially when I need one. It also got me into the original series. (I've heard it's the same for a lot of other people, too, and even reintroduced older fans.) So, really, if 4Kids decided they wanted to lay the smack down on LK, they'd only be hurting themselves. If anything, they should be thanking him!

1. When Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged was first released, what were your thoughts? How did you find it?
Actually, I hate to admit it, but I saw Naruto Abridged before YGO Abridged. Back in the days where I had SUCK internet, so I'd go over to his house and he'd show me these nifty online movies and whatnot, things like Charlie the Unicorn. One of the "related videos," links on the side of Naruto Abridged let me to the first episode of YGO Abridged, and I haven't gone back since.

2. What are you feelings on YouTube's copyright rules, and their apparent lack of interest in fair use?
It's their website, they can do what they want with it, although it's unfair that all those shitty AMVs can be up and something like YGO Abridged, which has original audio and is actually creative, is taken down.

3. What did you do when LittleKuriboh had to leave YouTube?
MY EYES! THE GOGGLES DO NOTHING!
In all honestly, I just googled the videos anyway.

4. Any thoughts in general on Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged?

Are you still taking in replies? If yes, here's mine...

1. When Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged was first released, what were your thoughts? How did you find it?

I didn't hear of it when it was first released. I first started watching the series about a month or two ago, but I've been watching the episodes everyday to school XD
My friend, who I only know online, but lives surprisingly close to me told me to watch it. At first I didn't want to, because I hated Yu gi oh (with good reason too, just look at the 4kids butchered version). Wierdly enough, he called Yu gi oh roots or something? Maybe it was just a bad mic, but it left me kinda confused. Anyway, I watched the first 15 eps in, like, one evening.

2. What are you feelings on YouTube's copyright rules, and their apparent lack of interest in fair use?

Some of my AMVs have been disallowed too for "copyright" reasons. I would have thought that these things count as fan art! Some people upload full, illegal episodes online and AMVs and Abridged series are completely different and are original, but it's those that get rejected rather than the millions of online episodes.

3. What did you do when LittleKuriboh had to leave YouTube?

I didn't know about that either. Fortunatly other users have re-uploaded the series, but it was unnecessary too kick him out!
Oh yeah, and other sites like Veoh had the episodes too.

4. Any thoughts in general on Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged?

Only thing that's getting me through me exams... alive!!

1. When Yu Gi Oh Abridged was first Released, what were your thoughts? How did you find it?

I heard it from many friends.

2. What are you feelings on youtube's copyright rules, and their apparent lack of interest in fair use?

I thought it was pretty unfair but I expected it from the beginning

3. What did you do when Little Kuriboh had to leave youtube?

I watched on www.dailymotion.com/littlekuriboh

4. Any thoughts in general on Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged?

Strange how LK just was bored one day and made it. Everyone wanted more. He was surprised and he made another, and another, and another. Soon he was a YouTube celebrity. Then he was forced to leave youtube, but he kept making more on different sites. Now, he is a well known by thousands, internet celebrity.

1. When Yu Gi Oh Abridged was first Released, what were your thoughts? How did you find it?
I didn't find YGOTAS until August or September 2007. Someone on another forum I frequent made a topic called "YouTube Videos" and posted a link to the first episode of the abridged series. I was watching it on YouTube posted by other people and word got around to me that he was banned, etc.

2. What are you feelings on youtube's copyright rules, and their apparent lack of interest in fair use?
I think it's crap that everything popular that may have a slight chance of breaking copyright laws gets deleted from YouTube. This has happened to most of my favorite AMV makers as well. It's always the popular stuff that gets deleted because the jealous flaggers want the popular stuff gone. Users are not the best judges in this area, though unfortunately, it's probably YouTube's only choice because it's just so friggin big.

3. What did you do when Little Kuriboh had to leave youtube?
Like I said, I found the abridged series after he left, but I was watching all the episodes posted by other people on YouTube anyways. When I couldn't find one of the episodes I found the video that said that he moved to dailymotion and someplace else, but I still couldn't find that episode. Then another friend for the forum I frequent posted a link to this website. So concludes my adventure...

4. Any thoughts in general on Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged?
The first and best abridged series. LK started such a huge Internet phenomenon, even if the term "Internet celebrity" is a bit meaningless. But at the same time it isn't; I mean yeah it's not like he's a Hollywood star or anything, but the abridged series brought people together who otherwise probably never would have met, including him and Safty.
I think the best part about this is as lukeh said, he was just bored one day and decided to make it. The best celebrities are those who don't really expect their fame.

1. When Yu Gi Oh Abridged was first Released, what were your thoughts? How did you find it?
A friend of mine talked to me for a full hour about how he'd found the series, quoting line after line. At first I payed very little attention, but as I pieced together what he was saying with my old memories of watching Yu-gi-oh! on TV, and it made sense, and suddenly I was compelled, asking him to remember more lines. When I got home, I watched every episode (I think there were 8 back then), and actually annoyed other people in the room with the amount of laughing I did. And I hadn't laughed that much since watching old episodes of the Simpsons. It was a revitalizing experience to see such fresh talent with such a wonderful concept.

2. What are you feelings on youtube's copyright rules, and their apparent lack of interest in fair use?
I actually made a full video on it, which you can use clips and quotes from if it's allowed, or just for information purposes:
Prodig's weekly rant - Youtube's removal of videos (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=5PrdZXvTFFw)
The basic point is that youtube's rules for removing videos are not really their decision, it's due to the copyright holders, and they can actually take videos off themselves. And yes, they are completely ignorant of any satire or parody laws that make it exempt from persecution (however the extent of this can be disputed, like is LittleKuriboh really allowed to use actual Yu-gi-oh! clips without permission?)

3. What did you do when Little Kuriboh had to leave youtube?
Well I didn't panic...that's for sure. Some people went really overboard, attempting to spam youtubes email box, making petitions and even putting up youtube's office address so they could 'protest'. I really didn't see what the deal was. OK, the novelty of seeing the abridged series where it started out was gone, and being taken off the top 10 subscribed spot lost him a lot of potential viewers (even today thousands don't know that the series has a website), but even if he didn't have his website to post on, he could make another account. As long as it didn't discourage him to make videos then it really didn't matter, if I get to see new eps I don't care where it happens.
It also seemed appropriate for him to be thrown off youtube after his site was made. With a site, he now had a place where fans could regularly be adressed, where episodes could be discussed, merchandise could be sold, and even events organized. Youtube never gave him any of those oppurtunities.
However, I was miffed when he was brought back and removed. When he was brought back, that was when he was put to number 10th most subscribed, and it wasn't through promotion or advertisement, it was through simple, incredibly high fan support.

4. Any thoughts in general on Yu Gi Oh Abridged?
I really like the way it's opened up fandubbing onto youtube. OK we do have the endless onslaught of poor abridged knock-offs, but really it inspired those people to attempt video making, which I'm all for. Hell, it started me posting videos on youtube, so it's very inspiring stuff.
I still think it's very underground, only really known by the anime community, but really it's the biggest thing I've seen on the net since Red vs. Blue, and I hope it gets to a much higher level of fandom very soon.

1. When Yu Gi Oh Abridged was first Released, what were your thoughts? How did you find it?
Well, I was on a forum, don't remember which, and I saw a topic about it. I was curious, and wanted to see what it was. At this point only the first ten or so episodes had been made. I quickly became a fan. The videos were an original idea, and they poked fun at a show I used to love. I loved seeing the little things about the show poked fun at, and I could relate to the show because I used to be a fan of the original.

2. What are you feelings on youtube's copyright rules, and their apparent lack of interest in fair use?
Well, I think that while they do have some point, there was no harm dome with LK's videos. I don't think that videos such as this should be removed from the site, but maybe full shows that have license in your country should. If the show has no license in your country, you have no other way of watching it, so it isn't fair, but this isn't a TV show, it is a series of edited videos that happen to take footage from the Yu-Gi-Oh show.

3. What did you do when Little Kuriboh had to leave youtube?
Nothing, really. I hadn't realized he'd left until after I found this site. I just did a random google search on "Yugioh the abridged series" and this turned up. I was surprised, and plus there were videos on the site I hadn't seen before.

4. Any thoughts in general on Yu Gi Oh Abridged?
It is just a good laugh all around that can be enjoyed by anyone. LK has a good sense of humor. While he's definitely no God, like some users on this site think he is, he IS a guy that can make me laugh, time after time. Any friends I've showed some episodes to think it is just as funny as I think it is. That just shows that anyone can like it. I really want more people to know about this, it would be nice to make a random reference at school and have more than two people know what I'm talking about.
