Death Note: The Forum Game
Murder has never been so much fun.
How do you play DN:TFG?
At the beginning of each round, the GM (Game Master) will assign two people to be Watari and the Shinigami. These two players will then choose someone from the player list to be L and Kira, respectively. Afterwards, the GM will assign the remaining roles and begin the game.
The game is divided into turns, which normally last 24 hours. During this time, all the players vote on which player is going to die for that turn. Once a vote has been posted, it cannot be changed, so be sure about whom you vote for. Also, any person with a role may activate it by notifying the GM, and Townies may Force Interrogate. At the end of the turn, the GM collects the data, tells everyone what happened, and begins the next turn. The game ends when Kira, L, or their successor dies (see below for rules on successors).
Following the round, players who do exceptionally well (or get lucky) will be awarded the Hall of Fame for that round. Alternatively, players who break the rules will be placed in the Hall of Shame and receive a punishment for the following round. This will be discussed later.
Roles
Kira
The mass murderer. Every turn, you can send the GM a message stating who you want to die and how. You also may Force Interrogate like a normal townie. When you are possessed, the person who possesses you only gains the abilities of a townie, and you may still make a kill.
Shinigami
You decide who Kira will be by PMing the GM who it will be, then the GM PMs them. You cannot die and cannot be possessed. If Kira does not send in a kill, then you can decide who dies instead. Your role is revealed before the beginning of the round.
Super Vote: This power can only be used when the original Kira is alive. Once per round, you can activate your Super Vote, which is your own vote plus the votes of all the people who have died. The person who you vote for cannot be saved by Watari, but the Protector and Lawyer can still save them. Ghosts cannot possess while the Super Vote is active. After using this power, the Shinigami cannot vote the rest of the round.
Sacrifice: The Shinigami can only use this power if there is a Kira successor. This power will stop the town vote for one turn and redirect it to someone else. After using this power, the Shinigami is considered dead, but cannot possess.
L
Every turn, you can send the GM a message saying who you want to accuse of being Kira. Whoever you accuse dies at the end of the turn. If this person is not Kira, the GM gives Kira the identity of someone who is not L, so tread carefully. You may Force Interrogate like a normal townie. When you are possessed, the person who possesses you only gains the abilities of a townie, and you may still make a kill.
Watari
You are publicly announced at the beginning of the round. You decide who L will be by PMing the GM who it will be, then the GM PMs them. Three times during a round, you can stop the town???s voting from killing someone by PMing the GM that you will stop it this turn. The third time you do this, the crowd is upset at your rulings and you die.
Detective
You can send the GM a message to investigate one person of being either Kira or L (you must specify one or the other), and they will tell you if you are right or wrong. If you are wrong, then you must wait a turn before investigating again. If you are right, then next round you become Shinigami (if you discovered L) or Watari (if you discovered Kira).
Police Chief
Your role is shown at the beginning of the round.
Interrogation: You can interrogate someone by PMing the GM to learn that person's role. If you choose Kira, L, or a bully, then you are told you interrogated a townie. If you interrogate the Assassin or Murderer, that person dies. After you interrogate someone, you must wait a turn before you can interrogate again.
Arrests: You can arrest three living people for a turn, which prevents them from voting or using their role. (Kira and L can still make kills.) The people you arrest are stated publicly in the thread, but their roles are not revealed. Once you have arrested someone, you must wait a turn before you can arrest anyone again.
Suicidal Maniac and Suicidal Maniac Ghost
During the round, you can choose to kill yourself. When you do, the GM randomly selects one person with an unrevealed role and reveals that role to you (L or Kira is a possibility). Without hinting at their name or avatar in any way, you can write a suicide note saying anything you want, and the GM will post it on the thread. If you die because of suicide, you also have special ghost rules.
Suicidal Ghost
- You may possess multiple times in a round.
- If one of the other ghosts possess in a turn, you can still possess as well.
- You cannot possess for two turns in a row.
- The Shinigami has no power over you. You vote every turn and you can possess every other turn whether or not the Shinigami's Super Vote is activated.
Protector
Three times a round, you can send the GM a message telling them one person that you want to save from the town vote. If you succeed, then your role is revealed. If the person you chose isn’t voted to be killed, nothing happens. This power only concerns the town vote, and cannot prevent kills from other sources. Your power cannot be used two turns in succession. Once you have used your role 3 times, your chance of protecting drops to 25%.
Murderer
At the beginning of the game, you are placed into the triads with the townies. Every turn, you can select one person to attack by PMing the GM, which will result in one of several options.
-20% chance of killing the person.
-50% chance of injuring the person, which prevents them from doing anything the next turn.
-20% of failing.
-10% chance of failing and getting caught, which results in you dying.
If the Murderer manages to kill 2 people in the same round, then he becomes immune to the Kira kill as long as he kills whoever Kira tells him to. Once the Murderer has injured or killed someone, then a Police Chief investigation will kill him.
Kira/L Successor
If Kira or L dies before turn 5 and less than 1/3 of the town (rounded up) has died; they choose a successor out of anyone who is still alive (other than Watari/Shinigami). This new person gains Kira/L’s abilities for the remainder of the round. The successor maintains any role that they may have had previously. If L/Kira chooses the current Kira/L respectively, then that person dies and both Kira and L are asked to choose a different person, this only counts as a succession for the character that originally died. Once one side gets a successor, then the other side automatically gets a successor. Also note that if one of the two had a succession, then the other will as well no matter what turn/death rate it is at.
18-29 PLAYERS
Lawyer
Defense Attorney: You may PM the GM telling them that you want to defend a specific person from the town vote other than yourself.
-50% chance of saving the person
-45% chance of failing and having the person die
-5% chance of failing and dying yourself
If you save the person, you gain control of their role and vote for the next turn (Kira and L are shown as townies), and you have to wait a turn before using it again. Alternatively, you may choose to counter the Prosecutor.
-75% chance of stopping the Prosecutor
-15% chance of failing and having the person die
-10% chance of failing and dying yourself
If you choose to stop the Prosecutor on a turn that they do not make an action, then nothing happens. If you stop the Prosecutor, then it is the same as saving the person normally (you gain their role/vote for the next turn), and you must wait a turn before using your power again. If you fail to protect 3 times during a round, then you are killed.
Right to a Lawyer: Whenever the Police Chief arrests people, you may choose one of them to prevent from being arrested.
Doctor
The Doctor may only use one of his powers per turn. By using either power, your role is revealed.
Healing injuries: If someone is wounded, you can heal them with a 50% chance of success. You are told immediately if you succeed or fail. If you succeed, you can control their role and vote for the rest of the turn in which you healed them. If you fail, the injury becomes worse (by one turn), and you cannot attempt to heal them again.
Revival: You may choose one person who is dead and try to revive them with a 10% chance of success. If you succeed at reviving someone, you cannot be voted out by the town for the rest of the match. You cannot attempt to revive the same person more than once in a round.
Prosecutor
During the turn, you may PM the GM requesting to redirect a number of votes from the person with the majority to any living player. This redirection occurs at the end of the turn. For every vote you attempt to redirect, you lose a 10% chance of successfully changing it. (90% for 1 vote, 80% for 2, etc.) However, if the vote is redirected to the Lawyer, then there is only a 10% chance of success regardless of the number of votes. Once the Lawyer dies, the Prosecutor???s chance of changing the vote cannot fall below 33%. Watari and the Protector cannot prevent the Prosecutor???s target from being voted out. The Shinigami???s Sacrifice takes priority over this. If you succeed in redirecting the vote or if you are stopped by the Lawyer, then you must wait a turn before attempting to redirect the vote again.
Kira/L Successor
The rule is the same, except now it applies if Kira/L dies before turn 6.
30+ PLAYERS
Priest (Primary draft)
Blessing: Once a turn, the Priest may select two ghosts (including the Suicidal Ghost) and prevent them from possessing or voting for that turn. Alternatively, he may select two living people to protect from possession for that turn. This must be done before that ghost calls a possession. The Priest may not bless the same ghost or person two turns in a row. You are publicly revealed if you use this power.
Exorcism: Twice during a round, the Priest may completely exorcise a ghost from the game. The ghost may still vote, but their ability to possess is taken away. This can be done even after the ghost has possessed (if they have already made an action after possession, it is not cancelled), but the Suicidal Ghost cannot be exorcised.
Ward off evil: If the Shinigami activates their super vote, then the Priest has a 10% chance of preventing it from activating that turn. The Shinigami may continue to attempt to use it, and the Priest may continue to attempt to counter it.
Impersonator
During the turn, you may PM the name of one living person to the GM in order to copy (not steal) the role of that person, and the role that you impersonated is revealed at the end of each turn. You may only impersonate each player once during a round, and Watari and the Shinigami cannot be impersonated. Impersonating Kira, L, or a Childhood Bully is the same as impersonating a townie. If the person you are impersonating during a turn dies for any reason, then you also die. There are a few limitations on the roles you are impersonating.
Police Chief: You may only use one of the Police Chief???s powers, and following the next turn you lose your powers.
Murderer: You die if the Police Chief interrogates you.
Priest:[/b] You cannot exorcise ghosts from the game or counter the Shinigami.
Suicidal Maniac: You become a normal ghost if you commit suicide.
Lawyer: You do not take control of the vote/role of a person if you save them.
Doctor: You cannot become immune to the town vote, and you cannot take control of the vote/role of a person if you heal them.
Protector: Your chance of protecting is 75%.
Townie: You can Force Interrogate.
If you impersonate a townie, you can impersonate again the next turn, but if you copy a role, you have to wait a turn before you can impersonate another character.
2nd Kira /L Successor
The rule is the same, but now applies if Kira/L dies before turn 7.
[u]Powers not involving roles
Townie
The basic unit of the game. Any person who does not have a role is considered a townie, as well as Kira and L.
Force Interrogation: This is a power only townies are able to use. Each turn, you can send the GM a message saying you want to Force Interrogate, as well as who in particular you want to target. The GM tallies the votes and one target is chosen at random. If half of the living townies interrogate, then it is successful and the role of the person with the most votes is revealed. L is safe from this, and appears as a townie.
Triads: At the beginning of the game, all the townies are divided into groups of three called triads. These triads are a source of information that you can trade in exchange for the information of others. Kira and L are also in the triads, so it helps the two sides build a suspect list.
Childhood Bully
There are 3 Childhood Bullies every round. A Childhood Bully is not an actual role, but a special kind of townie. They appears as townies as long as they are alive, but if they are killed by Kira, then the GM gives L the name of one person who is not Kira.
Assassin
There is 1 Assassin every round. Once per round you can kill one person. If the Police Chief interrogates you after you have made your kill, then you are killed. Other than that, the Assassin behaves like any other townie.
Ghosts
Once a player dies, they become a Ghost. Ghosts can vote like all the other players. However, each turn, two ghosts (not counting the Suicidal Ghost) may possess someone to take control of their role and vote for that turn. Possession for each turn is first come, first served, and each Ghost may only possess once per round unless they are revived by the Doctor and killed again.
Chain of Events
Every turn, the results are determined by the chain of events. If a person’s action is made unnecessary by an action earlier in the chain, then it is not counted.
