Just super special awesome isn't it? When we thought that the economic meltdown couldn't be any worse, Hamas soldiers decide to strike against land property. The Israelian government has retaliated through aerial bombing of the cities in Gaza and have initiated a land assault with soldiers and heavy artillery. The casualties of this conflict are beginning to grow at a worrying rate. The United Nations Security Council has demanded an immediate ceasefire of all related parties in the Gaza conflict and have unanimously passed a resolution to this end to achieve this. The Resolution has unfortunatey been ignored by both Israel and Hamas. As a result, the UN may need to consider imposing sanctions on the countries involved. I understand that Israel has a pretty poor record in terms of abiding by international law, UN Resolutions, and consistent use of collective punishment. Hamas also has problems regarding some of it's unethical policies since they were elected into control of the Palestinian authority in Gaza. Nevertheless, both Israel and Hamas should not have rashly engaged in violence when there may still be an oppurtunity to peace-however slim.

Other news of interest include speculation that Iran may acquire nuclear capabilities within months instead of years. If this does occur, Israel may decide to pre-emptively strike against Iran's nuclear facilities. The Israelian Government stated they may take this option of pre-emptive strike if Obama does not enforce restrictions on Iran regarding it's nuclear program when he becomes President.
