America was built on the foundation of freedom of expression and yet we are the most censored country on the planet. I am tired of hearing and seeing complaints over the content of media. If someone performs something that is a little too risque(sp) in the media and uptight american censors are calling for immediate bans on the deemed "inappropriate" content. If Miley Syrus wants to dance around a stripper pole at her concerts, I say let her. I really don't care if Adam Lambert performance at the AMAs was dirty.

If you are censoring the content to protect your kids from seeing it, then don't make the TV your baby-sitter or if something questionable does come on use the remote and change the channel to something else.

Also, just because you cover it up doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Sex, foul language, and violence all exist in our society, even though censors try to prove otherwise.

TO be honest, Yes I have heard America is very strict on their media with censoring.
But Ireland is amazing in that aspect (The only one I HAVE respect for my country for) is that the Media and all are the most liberal in the world.
They can show anything (Sometimes it's a bad thing though) But it really gives us Irish a good idea on what is going on behind the scenes because if it's found out... It'll get in the papers :S

Not everyone uses the TV as a babysitter.

Sex, foul language, and violence is not for young kids. At certain times, tv should be censored. That's like not having pg movies for kids.

I agree with gcar on this. No, not everyone uses the TV as a babysitter, but the ones who don't, they actually do not see an issue with what gets put on TV. They limit their kids' time on the TV, block inappropriate channels and shows with a high enough rating and that's the end of it. They don't write to the TV companies or the newspapers or the stations or the show saying that their content is inappropriate for children because they have found ways to make it so that their kids don't see it.

If they get exposed to inappropriate stuff every once in a while? Well, too late now. Teach your child how to deal with that information. Be a parent. Kids are impressionable, but not morons.

Kids at what age? Based on my own experiences, kids under 10 seem to prefer kid things. Kids that have double-digits prefer to be called preteens and start wanting to watch more explicit things, sexually or otherwise.

Sex: I'd rather a 13-year-old watch a porn movie than have her get pregnant and ruin her life.

Foul language: If they have ANY friends whatsoever, there's an overwhelming chance they'll have heard those words before.

Violence: Really? REALLY? Americans are the most violent motherfuckers in the world. If you want to change that and make it kid-friendly, you're going to have to hide all black history from them, hide all history dealing with war with them, hide the fact that 9/11 occurred.... you'll have to hide way too much. Violence happens. Preventing kids from realizing that leaves them in the dark to something very important. It also prevents them from connecting with other kids their own age whose parents actually DO let them see violent material because those parents are normal and aren't completely stuck-up.

If they don't use their tv like a babysitter, they can block channels and shit. If they do use it like a babysitter, then they shouldn't give a damn what their kids see. It's just that simple. If people want to keep their kids pure, then home-school them, because they're going to find out anyway if it's important culturally to their age group.
