I have my favorites but I believe making a "best" list is unfair to the strengths and weaknesses of certain series such as the fact that some series simply wouldn't function if they were a different genre and when I have preferred genres, I can't list series that were otherwise exceptional within a genre I don't normally focus on. For example, ToraDora is easily one of the greatest high school romance stories but isn't among my favorites because I don't really like romance in the first place. On the other side of the spectrum, I'm a huge One Piece fan and among one of my single favorite animes, however I can hardly call it one of the best existing animes for the same reason I can't admit that Dragonball/DBZ is one of the best; the storylines are severely lacking and once characters are introduced and given backstories, not much character development happens beyond small baby steps forward. One Piece's story is basically "IMMA FIND THE ONE PIECE" and that's about it. I still love watching them beat people to a pulp anyways!

That's why the word "best" is being misused in this instance. These are not "best" animes, they are "favorite" animes, not to say some of those animes don't overlap.

my list isn't in any particular order.

I pretty much listed 10 animes that I had watched and adored.
not one of those animes is any better or worse than the other.

I have to agree with Titan, even if it is little pedantic a point (aspecially when consider this was page made by troll,) there is no such thing as best when comes to opinion there is merely personal taste, I mean I would never consider Nauto or Bleach anything above average, yet to many they are brilliant, however if I was to make a list, putting my own personal tastes on the line I would say

1=Baccasno
2=Welcome to NHK
3=Natsu no Arashi (seriously how do not more poeple know about this show, its beats pants off The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya which is off my list for endless 8 piss take)
4=Code Geass (would be my fav if was not for school parts which I hate)
5=Darker than Black
6=FMA (original)
7=Deathnote (though my fav manga and overal, I put it low on the Anime List as I personally do not think works as well as Anime)
8=FLCL/Paranoia Agent=Put these too together as love/hate them for same reasons lol)
9=Outlaw Star
10=Black Lagoon

May have missed a few and amazed no put Gagun Lungan there, I mean I'm not its biggest fan, but most seem to love it

11. Death Note
12. Nana
13. Umineko no Naku Koro ni
I love both Clannad seasons, but I think that After Story went a bit fast.
Tomoya graduates, Nagisa graduates, they move in together, they get married, Nagisa gets pregnant, etc. All in about 15 episodes.
If I split them up, I'm put season 1 slightly higher than After Story.

Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu

Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo
Sword of the Stranger
Rurouni Kenshin

Hajime no Ippo
Nodame Cantabile

Also worth mentioning:
Slayer, Lovely Complex, Saint Seiya, Code Geass (season 1) and Samurai Champloo

A lot happens, sure, but it doesn't feel rushed to me - it thought it was all paced pretty well.
After Story wins hands down for me even if only for the staggering emotional impact that came with it. The first season wins for humour and does everything it strives to do perfectly, but After Story just... perfected the series in every way possible.

1.) Cowboy Bebop
One of the few shows I'd call "brilliant." A true example of what happens when skilled and talented people sit down and just try to entertain as best they can. Sometimes, the best art is made when the artists have no intention of making high art. Amazing, deep cast of characters in a series made specifically to entertain in every possible way one can be entertained by a story. And it succeeds in every way.

Also 1.) Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GiG
SAC season 1 was great, but season 2 was brilliant, pulling from real world events without ever feeling preachy, and creating a deep, rich plot while putting its fantastic cast of characters to good use.

And then, in no particular order:

One Piece
Loads of creativity with a riveting storyline to compliment its shonen-style action.
Solty Rei
A fantastic character piece with serious balls. The tone change at the end of the first 1/3 of the series is gutsy as hell, and turns the show into a darker, but much more gripping, story.
Heat Guy J
Amazing cast of characters, clever story, great dialogue, fantastic music, one of the greatest OPs in anime, it's a no-brainer.
Gungrave
A rare mafia-themed anime that surpasses the shallow game it was based on with a deep, rich storyline that blends typical mafioso style with sci-fi flare.
Code Geass
A whirlwind of shit-your-pants plot twists, with an entertaining cast and a great story to tell.
Death Note
Same reasons as Geass, but far more cerebral.
Outlaw Star
One of the best casts of protagonists I've ever seen in an anime, if only for the sheer entertainment value of them. This is a show that's just plain fun. Oh, and the OP is fantastic.
Detroit Metal City
Unbelievably funny. Rare, because I don't find alot of Japanese humor terribly funny, but good lord this show will have your gut thuroughly busted. And don't get me started on that crazy-ass live action movie. With Gene Simmons in it...!
Desert Punk
Similar to DMC, it's just plain funny. Raunchy, but funny. But my god, does it have what may be the ballsiest climax to an anime series I've ever seen...!

10) Pokemon(original not the newer crap)

9)Dragonball Z

8) Black Cat

7) Mobile Fighter G Gundam

6)Naruto(if you get past the fillers)

5)Inuyasha

4) Yu-Yu-Hakusho

3) Case Closed

2) Yugioh(Original FTW)

1) Cowboy Bebop

1) Rurouni Kenshin (refers to everything minus the non-canon parts in the anime and the first movie)
2) Last Exile
3) Mushishi
4) Fullmetal Alchemist (refers to manga/Brotherhood; though I did enjoy the original anime, except for Dante)
5) 5 Centimeters Per Second
6) Monster
7) Summer Wars
8) Le Chevalier D'Eon
9) Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo
10) Samurai Champloo

I'd give reasons, but I'm not really in the mood right now. That, and the fact that this might change once I start remembering other shows within the next few hours.

My list is a top five and not ten as I prefer to read manga rather than watch anime.

1 - Monster
2 - Hellsing Ultimate
3 - Cowboy Bebop
4 - Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
5 - Trigun

90HeroMAXD

10.Lucky Star(very low on the list because it has a lot of bad moments and the only parts I do enjoy are the anime references.(also the pop culture))

9.Gurren Laggan: Not one of Gainax's finest. Half the time it was just tits and jokes then they just suddenly made it serious which was stupid for me. Plus its not as hot blooded as King of Braves.

8.Doremon: this is for nostalgic purposes as I remember watching this series ever since i was 3. Now that the voice actors changed, which is a stupid reason, but getting used to a cast and suddenly changing is just bad, i mean Im fine with Sonic because I found no difference between the voice actors, but this was just too noticeable.

7.Yu-Gi-Oh.....5D: Yeah that's right I like 5D. main reason is because the characters aren't as flat as a cardboard. Okay well mabey they still are but they are a cardboard box, making them a little more dimensional and have better character development, and actual background.
Plus only about 3/4 of the show actually revolves around motorbikes.
Pilot episode wait about 7 episode another episode on motor bikes about another 5 then another bike duel.

6.Mazinger Z: Dada-da,Dada-da,Dada-da MAZIN-GO!!!
An instant classic, believe it is one of the first Super Robot, franchise show.
Created by one of my personal fav artist Go Nagi(one who is also responsible for Getter Robo, Cutie Honey, Devil Man, and much much more)
any mecha fan should really watch this. Heck this series is so popular that in Spain(or some country) their is a statue of the Robot, around 10ft tall.

5.Full Metal Panic: This was a nice blend of Mecha, Comedy and Romance. Any fan of the three should really check it out.

4.King of Braves GaoGaiGar: Now this is a hot blooded anime, targeted to kids, but most known for the Hot Bloodedness that is Guy(protagonists name) it don't matter if his mech is only 120(roughly) ft tall. He can kick ass and take names, carries a Giant Hammer and Bans anyone by turning them into light(or uses a hammer that is made of pure light that is almost the size of Jupiter)

3.G Gundam: The best in the Gundam franchise, why? Because its unique unlike all the others which is just star wars with giant robots, this went for a whole different approach. This series was also made by multiple artists who also made great animes such as Outlaw star, Cowboy Bebop and Metal Armor Dragonar.

2. School Rumble: Despite this having a lack of character development, i thought the series was just hilarious. Such great ways to make you believe one thing and it just throws you a giant curve ball. Unexpectingly funny

1.Redundent, but: Evangelion, I don't know I just love the series, because of its very well done character development, sure the ending suck and I hate how they added another child in the 2.0 movie, but the anime and the manga stick to me as the number 1 best anime.

10. Bleach.
Low on the list but what can I say, for all it's plot holes and the genuine feeling Kubo is none too sure where he's going with it, The sheer amounts of Rule of cool alone make it some nice brainless fun.

9. Full Metal Panic (Inc Fumofu and Second Raid)
Mecha. Check. Highschool that seems natural. Check. One of most badass nutso just will not die villains ever. Check. yeah, this deserves to be here.

8. Gundam Wing
My first Giant robot anime, it looses it's way a little bit mid way through but a director dying will do that to a show, that and i can only watch teh english, if people arn't yelling "IT'S A GUNDAM!!" it doesn't feel right.

7. Yugioh/Pokemon/Digimon
These are what broke me into anime and though I couldn't tell you what I liked about either of them now, I can still happily watch away for hours.

6. Full Metal Alchemist (original)
Awesomely awesome awesome and one of the few series I own all of, shame dante seemed like a bit of an ass pull.

5. Gundam 00
Like Gundam wing but better, save this time I can't watch the dub at all, I can forgive lockons lack of Irish accent in the Japanese, in the English version, not so much.

4. Ultimate Hellsing
This is how vampires should be done, fuck you twitards, I'm Team Hellsing.

3. Outlaw Star
This is what truly sparked my interested into animé thanks to CNX, everything else felt like just another cartoon until this point, then pirates and space ships and Naked girls in boxes and so much awesome it just makes me smile.

2. Cowboy Bebop
I don't need to explain why this is so High up do I? Well, on a personal note this one on in tandem with outlaw star, and although I could never quite make sense of it at the time, once I went back a couple of years later and managed to watch everything in order I fell in lover, and this was my number one, until.

1. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Yep, fuck you Eva fans and your show about a pansy kids downwards spiral into madness and further depression, I'll take my show about a pansy kids spiral up into epic manliness involving drill cute creatures, girls guns and mecha bigger than galaxies.

That's because she's a terrible character that BONES pulled out of their collective butt-hole.
Manga/Brotherhood characters FTW! (I suggest reading/watching them if you haven't already. As enjoyable as the first series was, the original story just blows it out of the water.)

Wait, what?

Let me put it this way. The original manga was about 300 chapters long. The anime tried to tell the same story in 68 episodes. The result was a really watered down version of the series, a lot of important character and plot points missing, and some of the coolest fights in the series lost.

That's why if you want to check out Shaman King, you should read the manga and not even bother with the anime.

Or was that piss poor translations? They ruin tons of great manga.

*scratches head* I need to watch Durarara and Baccano, methinks. I tried to get into the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya but I just never got enough interest in it to watch more than a couple of episodes. Same thing with Lucky Star.

I would also like to take this time to note that the anime Inuyasha is possibly one of the most annoying things I have ever watched. Thank you for your time and have a good day.

My favourite anime in no particular order:

Mononoke
Kyo Kara Maoh
Claymore
Dragon Ball Z - up until the end of the Cell Saga, imho everything else after that sucked
Digimon - only the first two or three seasons
Axis Powers Hetalia - am I the only one who doesn't give two damns about how a lot of the newer fans are 'ruining' the series? Or maybe I just hate all the 'It's Popular Now It Sucks' FanDumb.
Bleach - I don't mind it, but I get sick of Ichigo and Aizen, and I swear the fillers were done just to troll the fandom. But I like the awesome fight scenes and Kenpachi Zaraki.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles - I preferred the manga over the anime, considering the anime just skipped to fillers in the second season and didn't do the Acid Tokyo Arc and beyond! Dx

Updated list.

10) Chrono Crusade
May be last on this list, but still great. Unlike most people, I don't see the anime ending as horribly inferior. Having the villain pretty much win is nice for a change of pace.

9) Rozen Maiden
While I prefer the manga, the anime is still great. Too bad it's discontinued, it would be awesome to see Kirakishou for more than two seconds.

8) Death Note
Brought down by the second act, but still great overall.

7) Higurashi No Naku Koro ni
Creepy as hell first act, and the mystery around the story was great. Then there's the comedic episodes, which are pretty hilarious.

6) Katekyo Hitman Reborn
One of the better shonen series out there. Improbable weapons, Mafia babies, Dying Will Tsuna, this series loves piling on the awesome. The more light hearted episodes can drag on a bit though.

5) Pandora Hearts
Pretty cool. The anime's ending was rushed and pretty bad, which is a shame since it pretty much followed the manga perfectly.

4) High School Of The Dead
Excessive panty shots aside, I absolutely love this show. High Schoolers VS zombies? Hell yeah!

3) Kanon
First anime I remember getting somewhat emotional. I loved every character, and was pretty humorous too.

2) Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro Chan
Freaking Hilarious. Having only eight episodes is a crime against humanity.

1) Clannad
Absolutely amazing, and mixes comedy and serious business pretty well. Like Kanon, except somehow better.

I haven't seen enough anime to make a proper top ten list (I'm not including all 17 films in the Studio Ghibli collection - just series')

But here are the ones I've seen

Love Hina
Rozen Maiden
Tora Dora
Ranma 1/2
Death Note
Dragon ball
Dragonball Z
Pokémon
Step Up Love Story (It's an OVA - almost a hentai, more like a "lovers guide" - wtf)

Ones I started watching but never got past a few episodes:
Elfen Lied
Dragonball GT
Yu-Gi-Oh

Currently watching:
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (I wish I could get hold of more than volume 1 - this is a freakin awesome anime)

Out of all of these, I guess I would order them thus:
10) Ranma 1/2 - Manga was absolutely amazing, anime was utter shite
9) Pokémon - Watched it when I was a kid
8) Dragon ball - Couldn't get into it that much
7) Elfen Lied - never actually finished this series, but it was interesting
6) Dragonball Z - The main anime my friends and I watched as a kid
5) Love Hina - I really enjoyed this series
4) Death Note - I absolutely loved this series, and was not put off by the second act
3) The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - Currently watching, it's so hyperactive, and I love it ^_^
2) Rozen Maiden - One of my all time favourites, it's such a shame they never did a third season
1) Tora Dora - WINRAR! There's not much I would fanboy over, but this series is one of them

The ones not on the above list are considered by me to be too crap to include.
Given that I included the Ranma 1/2 anime at number 10, you have a good idea of how shit I thought Step Up Love Story, Dragonball GT and Yu-Gi-Oh were

Umm, you do know that Avatar: The Last Airbender isn't anime, right? It was just created in an anime style, you know, how they make the characters look. Either way, I agree, it's a great show.::3:

I'm bored so I'll give a very extensive reasoning for each one I put down on the list, some are here because I loved them when I was younger, and just couldn't leave them out.

So without further ado;

http://pwned.com/gamecovers/gameboy/88c3599fb374249d68545694a5f3b68e-Pokemon_Yellow.jpg
Well, I'll narrow it down, I only watched Pokemon when there was 150 (151 counting Mew if I am correct). I remember beginning to watch this show as a kid when I got Pokemon Blue for my birthday on my ancient gameboy, until then I had a Game Gear, which didn't have Pokemon.
The show was like nothing I had seen before, this was back in 1997, where the only anime's you'd find on TV was Sailor Moon and Dragonball Z, around this time they had begun to dub others, like Pokemon, Cardcaptors, Medabots and Digimon.
But Pokemon is on this list because of the nostalgic value and the fact it really introduced me to anime, and video games in general.
Prior to that, video games weren't owned by many people, I can distinctively remember being one of 5 kids who actually owned a video game system.
The show itself later got tiring and I stopped watching, just before they started adding more Pokemon and I realized the show wasn't going anywhere. The games didn't evolve either and I lost interest by time I was 11.
It's boring and predictable all the time, but was insanely popular when I was young and I was part of the craze.
So it just had to go here, as number 10.

http://www.lambiek.net/artists/t/toriyama_a/toriyama_akira_bleach.jpg
I first read the Bleach manga, up til number 10, getting them at a used book store on a lunch hour when I was working last fall. I watched the anime later, though still preferred the manga. Bleach seemed to have a neat angle, but quickly dissolved into the whole "explosions and screams" and I lost interest.
My problem with it, like Pokemon, is I didn't feel it went anywhere (like any fighting anime) things get bigger and bigger, and so do the characters, and people who were once superhuman, though still comprehend-able to the common man, become walking gods almost, and it looses a lot of charm.
I still enjoyed the anime and the manga (the one's I read), so it gets number 9 (it was still better then Love Hina).

http://images-anime.mikomi.org/images/sized/400/600/270.jpg?1220653816
Ceres was actually the first manga I had ever read (at 19) and it took me about a day to figure out how to actually read the damn thing.
When I finally got to it, I begun to really enjoy it. I always like a twisting plot and Ceres does that in a lot of ways, all from a folk story most everyone has heard (as most cultures have a version of it).
For those who don't know its about a young woman named Aya Mikage, and her twin brother Aki, who both have turned 16, and instead of a party, Aya was tested to see if she was the Celestial Maiden reborn (it was the Mikage family of many generations ago who stole her robes and she is still wanting to kill them all. There's more but I don't want to give too much away...

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51FFFN7GMTL._SL500_AA300_.jpg
This is where the list really gets serious and I leave Nostalgia behind to get to my core favorites.
The Slayers is a, sort of D&D inspired fantasy story-Lina, sorceress (voiced by the lady who voices Serenity) goes places and blows shit up with money, with her friend Gourry (voiced by the guy who voices Kaiba) infact there is a lot of people who voice Yugioh characters in this anime (I heard Lumis' voice in there too). I first heard of this in a weird, silent advertisement on one of my Dragonball Z DVD's, and watched an episode soon after-then bought a DVD set on sale. It has a lot of comedic moments and explosions, which go oddly well together. I enjoy the dub more because the jokes work better and I find the voices recognizable.

http://www.hellokids.com/_uploads/_tiny_galerie/200811/yugioh-source_k7z.jpg
Yes, I put this here, and I really do enjoy the show, even still. There is a weird charm about it (though I freely admit to hating the whole virtual world thing and walking the dragons arc). It started airing here when I was 12-13, in grade 8, and the cards began their debut at my school right away. It had a silliness, but I loved the whole ancient egypt thing, and I always enjoyed seeing Kaiba loose. Recently I tried watching it in Japanese and felt it wasn't the same, it didn't have at all the same feel the 4Kids dub had, which wasn't all bad, things considering.
I have seen GX and 5D's, and this won't shock anybody, but I didn't like them. GX was actually really promising in the start, I thought they were going to take a completely different, and oddly realistic, direction with the show, but it dissolved very quickly (and I also REALLY hate Chazz). 5D's...well...
http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/107/0/6/CARD_GAMES_OF_MOTORCYCLES_by_SkyeHawc.jpg
Need I say more?

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/UnwantedHarem
I had to put a harem somewhere on my list, and Shuffle! is it, and I am sure you are all assuming why I did (boobies) but no, actually Shuffle! is pretty deep, all things considering. At first it seems Rin is a spineless wuss like all harem male leads, but we soon find out he is living with a completely insane woman (Kaede) so there's a logical reason he doesn't go for her (we actually see she tried to kill him as kids-long story). Then Sia and Nerine show up and things only go downhill as everyone wants to be with him, he has to deal with his own feelings, the fact if he chooses Sia or Nerine-he'd be king of something, his supposed "hidden loli lust" for Primula (who is said to only be a year younger then him-BULLSHIT!).
I watched both the Japanese and English dub, and I must say the dub is so much better.
The characters sound uniquely different, each suiting their personality and really letting us know a lot about them even if they say something casual like "oh hey Rin" the jokes are funny and sound realistic, and really gives the series a more, well realistic touch (I realize there is elves and princesses and a robotic loli)...Its a LOT deeper then one would ever think looking at it, and one of my favorites because of that.

http://www.animepia.com/data/goodsImages/GOODS1_1256880975
This anime, is very strange. The dub is completely different for the original, leaving people sort of split on how they feel about this one.
If you know it, you know why its so hilarious (it feels like an abridged series, and sort of is, just not abridged). The dub has very little to do with the original, and for good reason, I thought the original Japanese sucked. Boring, predictable and tiring, the dub gives a bland story a great splash of hilarity (and the lady who voiced Asa from Shuffle! is in it too).
It makes a lot of jokes about anime, meme's, movies, all sorts-well worth watching an episode to get a good laugh.

http://dragonballzgamesforpc.yolasite.com/resources/dragonball_1.jpg
Now you might be wondering why I didn't put Dragonball Z here, as I often talk about it more, but truth be told, I think Dragonball is the better show (and manga). Characters were more well rounded, humans were useful, nothing was horribly overpowered and Goku wasn't needed for everything. It also wasn't 20 episodes of fighting and screaming, there was more of a plot and it was quite fun and enjoyable. Dragonball Z was good, but I just like Dragonball more.

http://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/anime/13/15723.jpg
This is an anime I hold in quite high regard, as you all know. It begun my desire to collect dolls, and my overall introduction to anime in my adult years. So why isn't it number 1? It never finished.
Yes the show ended after season 2 with no conclusion, and the manga ended in an even more annoying way (I know there's another manga going but its not in english yet, and hasn't ended either). After all what happens it just...doesn't go anywhere, it intended too, but never did for whatever reason.
I prefear the dub in this as well, because I can never tell who is talking in the Japanese version (and too much desu).
Most all of you know why I love Rozen Maiden, so on to number 1...

aka Higurashi no Naku Koro ni?
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51UHwRRXGML._SL500_AA300_.jpg
Yes, this is my favorite anime, When They Cry (I call it by the english name as I've only seen the dub, which I find some of the voices distracting as 3 of the voice actresses who are in Rozen Maiden, are in this one too).
The reason I like it so much, well I enjoy mysteries and seeing the paranoia manifest in people. I like horror but in a much more psychological way, when you don't know if its them or you, or if anyone else even exist to destroy you and you are simply destroying yourself.
When one never is sure who is the enemy...Its refreshing to see...
I don't have much to say as I am still watching it but it's got me hooked!

Well there is my top 10, that killed an hour-I sleep now

Xanada nice and well rounded review there ^^, certainly inspired me to watch few of them:-<5 star>

Also totally agree on Pokemon, ok it sucks, but it sucks in way that all nostgiatic things suck because when we were kids, we didn't realise it sucked lol but then after first league ended I two lost interest as thing just didn't go anyway

Actually totally agree with you on bleach, Dragon Ball, Yu Gi and Rozen as well (though none would be in my top 10, I feel same way about them)

=The only thing don't agree with you on is "When they Cry" don't get me wrong, I know lots of people love this anime and I even I wouldn't say it is bad, I just think when have such cool plot-device it could have been so much better if the writers had clear idea of what anime they wanted to make rather than trying to comfortability force 3 or 4 types together at once or at least that is what I think and I appear to be in sub-group of opinion here lol

PS also though I can understand your frustration with sub's being hard to differentiate, when people talk in different language/accent to you, can take bit of practise getting to use to differentiating voices, but seriously is worth it if stick with it

Did you watch season two (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai)? Not sure if you're referring to the fact that the arcs seem to repeat in the first season, but in the second season it all comes together.

I think you have misunderstood me here, I was not criticising the plot, I thought plot had the foundations to be fantastic but in my limited and uneducated opinion, the way it was put together in terms of theming, simply didn't do it justice because they didn't know if they wanted a comedy, a dark murder mystery, a romantic setting, a kawai/chibi show or plain mind fucker...etc, so instead they tried to mash everything in there together.
-Now this isn't an instant fail, but if going to do it, then need to do it brilliantly, sadly I don't think did so here, this meant that whole thing was felt unsure of itself and very uncomfortable: The cutie scenes did not traverse well into the dark scenes; the began mystery lost and confused rather than abstract and ambiguous; the love scenes were left feeling forced and the comedy became very urrrrrr (sorry simply only sound which can express my feelings there) lol...etc
-Don't get me wrong I realise lots love it and I don't think it is a bad anime by any means, I just think it has lot of problems which meant it could and should have been so much more, and this ironically could have been achieved if they had tried to do a little less

I can't stand how most Japanese voice actresses sound. I don't much like the Japanese language either
English is my first language so I react more to the dubs because I know the language
Shuffle! is a perfect example to how something can be better with a simple language change (jokes become funny instead of awkward or just stupid) the voices fit the characters much better and it becomes a tad more realistic

well japanese voice actresses is something I can agree with you, there are few good ones like Riisa Naka, but on whole, anime's seem to think all girls under 30 need to sound like practising for school play o_0
=However think the other things are just things need to watch lot of subs and get use to the accent/language, but your choice to do what want

I've got no order

YGO, just...because it's YGO
FMA/B, wow, I love the story, animation and character...great
Death Note, I was addicted...watched all episodes in less than 4 days
Code Geass, kinda liked the story, sometimes to much fanservice, but the ending was great
Hellsing/ Ultimate, Alucard...the one and only vampire (after Nosferatu)
X, loved the animation and music (in German the main voices are the same as Yami and Seto's...great)
One Piece, it's sometimes so funny and on the other hand very sad. And Smoker is epic!
Lupin III, I love it!
Princess Mononoke, I know it's a movie but one of the best I've ever seen.
Nr. 10 is missing...I will see what happens in future ;)

Hmm, I'd probably have to make separate lists for OAVs, movies, & series...I've been watching anime since freaking 1989.

*Robotech. (Best hack dub EVER).
*Slayers (all of the series, movies, & OAVs, plus the mangas)/
*Gensoumaden Saiyuki. (A bit like Slayers).
*Hunter x Hunter.
*GetBackers. (Similar to HxH)
*Jungle wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Goo.
*Excel Saga.
*Gintama.
*Photon: Idiot Adventures. (Best worst dub EVER).
*Juubei-Chan (But season 2 can burn in hell).
*Gokudo: Swordsman Extraordinaire. (Similar to Slayers).
*Sorcerous Stabber Orphan. (Similar to Slayers).
*Wind of Amnesia.
*Unico (both of them).
*Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro (similar to both Black Butler & Beetlejuice).
*Arsulaan Senki.
