A.R.E.N.A (Act Two)

On a remote island, a reclusive billionaire has perfected his Area Regeneration and Extreme Nerve Attack machine, also known as A.R.E.N.A. Several candidates were then chosen to test out the capabilities of A.R.E.N.A through the guise of a reality show. After a grueling orientation, you have been trained to kill. If this all sounds familiar, it is.

The Goal: Survive
The Mission: Kill
The Location: ???

The Rules: After a tour of your arena by the GM you will face each other in a round of combat to the death on the A.R.E.N.A using the weapons provided by the machine. You will select a weapon, select a fighting action and a body part to target. You will then score points based on how efficient your choices were, and the total of all three is the damage to the other player. A.R.E.N.A is a cold bitch, so expect anything to change. [note: the point list will be generated beforehand and remain unchanged all the way through the battle, so learn your arena.]

The winner advances to the next round until there is one survivor, the warrior, at which point, the first act is over...

You start with 50 health and regain 50% of any damage you have given to the losing competitor. So if you lost 37 health in round one but won, you will be on 13+(50/2=25)=38 health when you advance, so it's best to find out the good stuff first.

For a city, it was scary. They were so used to hustling metropoli and bustling centres that being the only two in this concrete playground was quite disturbing, the PA system from all shops in a two block area rang out; "Greetings to you, today is the first day of the rest of your lives, enjoy." Right away, the two combatants turned to see a dark back alley, filled with all kinds of home luxuries: Guns, Knifes, the lot. And it was theirs for the taking...

In the jungle, baku grabs the whip, and instinctively spins around, creating a large radius of pure pain. It catches Ninjas on the torso, dragging along the table, lowering the damage a bit, but the whip still dealt a lot of damage: 18points

In retaliation, ninjas grabbed the machete, but with the table in the way, his slash caught the table midway through. It still caught his right arm as it was in mid-spin, compensating for the half-mobility: 15points

In the Ocean, Ishi goes straight for the net, and throws it from above over grim, unfortunately, because he went over grim, the water resistance slowed it down. Shame too, and aiming for the torso wasn't a good idea since you can't trap someone if you don't cover the whole body...: 16points

As for grim, he went for the harpoon, lunging at Ishi, avoiding the net easily as it doesn't cover his arm, it catches him on the right arm which was extended from the throw: 19points

In the desert, Turt went for the sword, slashing over the table at 0mni. Unfortunately, the dehydration had gotten to him, so his slash was weak, and the sword was heavy, and he kinda aimed for one of the heads he was imagining, only catching the ear really, but boy did he catch that pidgeonear: 10points

In the city, Aster took a car, and with his training enhanced strength, picked up a car, and got to stabbing Ducky. Unfortunately, as it's the city, all the cars are fancy sports cars so there are a) No sharp edges, just sleek bodywork and b) They are really light and so there is no weight behind the stab. The head was a good target though, throwing him off balance: 15points

Ducky, regaining himself, picked up another light, smooth car and threw it in the air, but the lightness made it float more than normal cars, so not much damage was given. But aiming for the torso from a high angle was better here than in the Ocean, so not all was lost: 14points

Okay, I thought I would have time to get my action in but apparently turns do NOT end when all actions are in.

I'll SPIN 180 degrees away from Turtle, point the GUN to MY HEAD and pull the trigger, committing suicide because I no longer desire to play.

If there is only 1 gun, I will grab the sword, lunge head first at turtle's gun so he can't miss my head and then stab myself with the sword, as I am killed, in my torso.

Even if you don't allow me to commit suicide, I'm refusing to play so Turtle may enjoy hitting a punching bag.

This time, baku goes for the spear sticking in the ground by the table, and lunges towards Ninjas, unfortunately, the table kinda blocks any forward motion so it just catches the tip of, well actually there is a tree branch above the table, did I mention that, so aiming for the head doesn't work much either...: 12points

As for Ninjas, he also takes the spear, but seeing the table, decides that it would be better to throw it at the torso, well he arches it a bit wrong and bounces off the branch, but it was still a perfect throw and lands in baku's torso for damage: 19points

0mni was catching up quite nicely last round, but this is quite a big score to beat. Still, the sand was a very nice touch, blinding Turt and generally freaking him out. Of course when you're tired and weak, throwing doesn't do much: 19points

After speaking to Aster, he raises a good point. I've got it all written down here but in terms of guns, the actions will remain but the following actions are also acceptable are equal the terms as follows:

Slash = Pistolwhip (no matter how big the gun)
Stab = Straight Shot (shot is acceptable)
Lunge = Blindfire
Spin = Spin Shot (must be spin shot)
Throw = Throw

grim was feeling rather smug. And I guess you could see why, what with a 20point lead. So he went for the Hammer, and lunged at Ducky's head. Unfortunately, the head (get it) fell off of the hammer, so... yeah: 9points

As for Ducky, well he went for the Beam Sword and threw it at grim. The throw was rather tame but, well I've not really used the Beam Sword in SSBB cause I hate items bar Smash Ball (sometimes), so I just assume it's this big lightsaber thing, and I DO know about those: 19points

Again, the health issue was better for Turt than baku, so she let him go first... of course that's not how it works, but it is in my description. Turt went for the Xuanlong Assault Rifle, which I may add, is maybe my most favourite weapon in all of Fallout 3 and shot right for the head. And if you know Fallout 3. VATS+Head usually equals good: 24points

So yeah, how's that healing thing going baku? I guess it's not going rather well cause you went for the puny Scoped .44 Magnum, which is not the best of HOLY SHIT. Yeah, this thing just kind of fired off two bullets at once at Turt's head. Lucky bugger: 17points + Bonus 17points

Yah, before people start to wonder, I put the double bonus in cause, especially when you look at the start of the grim-Ducky match, when Ducky was essentially down 40% on grim, people need a break... and luck, dear me baku were you lucky.

Actually, something that I just realised. In the situation baku/Turt is in, because Turt found a score one off the max and he is 3 behind. I'll be adding this rule. Because he now technically can't catch up. When this is the case, if he finds the full 25points then he wins. This will go for the whole game I think.

grim and baku both breathe heavily as they recuperate following their two intense battles, they did not know who had survived, but they knew that A.R.E.N.A would pit them against each other. The trains connecting the battlegrounds to the island entered a tunnel and both met at a stop deep inside what looked to be a factory. In the centre was a large computer, linked up to a whole host of terminals. grim was able to make out the Final Destination and Ocean battlegrounds he had been on, while baku noticed the Capital Wasteland and Jungle. Both looked at each other, as if to confirm that their arenas were on the screen.

"Welcome" a familiar voice echoed, "I am A.R.E.N.A, and this is my main hub. Congratulations on getting so far. However, there has been a slight change in programming. I had hoped you would have been a lot more tired than you were, so my masters could study your behaviour under pressure, but that is not the case." Both competitors knew that they were fighting for freedom, and that the board of directors were behind all of this, but they didn't know they were so sadistic as to use them as test subjects.

"As it stands, I will have to weaken you myself it seems" And with that, the area suddenly changed, as if an illusion. The competitors looked down, as the metal walkways had changed into sand. It seemed, that the final battle was not for freedom, but to survive.

Sensing that A.R.E.N.A was going to get the best of them, grim went for the whip, spinning and hitting the machine in the right arm, taking off 21points. However, baku, nearly being caught in the crossfire had to dive to the sand. Noticing the sand lying all around her, she got a handful of it and punched A.R.E.N.A, piercing her metallic casing, and causing sand to clog up inside for 22points.

A.R.E.N.A was still calm, and the room dissolved into something different, we were now in the City. The mechanics began to whir inside A.R.E.N.A and a huge earthquake roared through the 'city', causing both baku and grim to lose 20points and also to break apart every shop stand in the immediate vicinity. Getting up, grim and baku prepared to attack...

baku throws the door at A.R.E.N.A, catching it in the torso, unfortunately, the uneven ground from the Earthquake means that the throw is weak and the door is all mangled. Still, it manages a nice 17points. Meanwhile, grim used the throw to get around the back of A.R.E.N.A and slash a knife right into the left leg. Of course, it IS mechanical, so the flimsy cutlery knife is rather ineffective. 13points

A.R.E.N.A, still surviving, changes the battlefield to the Jungle, and launches a live wire right at bakurachick, instantly disintegrating her.

A.R.E.N.A fell to it's knees, it had defeated the last of the 8. The room went black as the arena went silent. Elsewhere, a faint beeping was heard as a door starts to whoosh open. "Welcome back Mister grim. You were the last to die, or in laymans terms, you won. We have reactivated you, please enjoy your freedom."

grim walked out into the blinding sun a new man, for now...
