I do remember that when i first discovered Season Zero and went and watched some it that Kaiba did seem strangely friendly and happy even when insane things were happening, I prefer that self absorbed young man who is an enemy of stairs.

The only thing I remember about season 1, which I saw like 15 years ago, was the really gay way Jyounouchi told Yuugi he wanted to be his friend. Kaiba looks better with green hair & yellow eyes, but I already miss his 80s fashion sense. I'm totally digging his flip-flopped personality.

I like my Kaiba as he is in the anime. Everything else is a bit too much for my tastes. Even season 0 kaiba at times.

But that's the point - that he is not Kaiba, but "Seto" - just "Seto". I know that it will only make sense once my story is finally ready and getting posted online, but Ani-chan is basically a different path of evolution, a Seto that never became a Kaiba, and so had a different life and different experiences, and it shaped him differently. So I would never, ever pass him off as Kaiba. He's an alternative counterpart / doppelganger, and I did my best to do Kaiba justice in the story to make sure that the difference is clearly felt.

I like anime Kaiba best, too.

Not quite. His parents did die and they did end up in the orphanage (where they never got to face Gozaburo Kaiba, and hence stayed there for quite some time until Seto finally managed to break through). I guess the difference of development arose more from his relationship to Mokuba. I have heard many approaches to how Seto received Mokuba when he was born, and I think you were among those who said he might have hated him at first because he lost his mother to him? (Correct me if I'm wrong, I vaguely recall this, but I can't tell you where I've read it.)

My Seto latched onto Mokuba immediately, and never let go of him. He's softer in his own way because he never got to be the somewhat distant protector, the strong older brother and "Nii-sama", basically. He was a nurturer instead, and Mokuba always felt more in charge of their brotherhood than canon Mokuba did - like he was in the center and Seto was the backdrop, so alternative Mokuba is also different - more headstrong, more proud than his canon counterpart.

I don't know if I managed to explain the way I wanted, or if it makes sense. If you want, I can give you a short one-shot to read that I've written to explore their earlier years better. (I haven't finished the one where Seto gets his epithet yet, and that would be the best for this purpose, but the one-shot I'm offering is sort of telling of their different personalities.)

Yellow eyed/ green haired Seto is so much more intimating than his other version. I have to say that it could work as a psychological thing. After years of mental and physical torture, after experiencing yami yugi's death penalty game(the one where monsters rip you to pieces) kaiba finally snaps and though outward he looks normal inward he is crazy. And finally sets out to kill his abusers. First by acquiring Kaiba corporation, thus gozoborou kills himself, and later by making yami yugi experience the same penalty game that he gave him.

The first comment was a joke. I meant that the plot would have been gruesome. Maybe even the penalty games / millenium items would not have been so easily overcome by silly friendship powers and the maincast might have lost some friends (mange honda or original or anzu-joey was pretty much give plot protection ).

I mean is maybe even the main cast might not have had the plot protection that they experienced. Perhaps honda and otogi or anxious get extremely harsh penalty games and though Joey / yami had plot protection up the butt even they might of suffered something harsh- for the sake of suspense.
