I have read waaaaaay too many books that are the best I have ever read...if that makes sense.

I will put the tip of the iceberg. Anything by the following authors: William Shakespeare, Herman Melville,Edgar Allen Poe, Robert Frost, J.R.R. Tolkien, Amy Tan, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens,Joyce Carol Oats, Bisco Hatory, Yu Watase, Matsuri Hino.

These people and their AMAZING books: Holly Black for, Tithe, Valiant and Ironside.
Lewis Carroll for the story that has had the most influence on me, Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Last but far from least is Stephenie Meyer, who wrote the best vampire love story ever! Meyer: the Twilight saga-Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn

The Abhorsen Trilogy by Garth Nix. Most notable out of the three was the first book Sabriel. I love that book to no end and it was the first book where I fell in love with all three major characters: Sabriel, Mogget, and Tombstone. I suggest you check out the books Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen by Garth Nix if you like Fantasy with necromancy and excellent story telling.

"Conversations with God" book series by Neale Donald Walsch.

As for fiction, "For One More Day" by Mitch Albom probably stands out on top for me.

For me, I would have to say For Another Day, this is a really good book written by Mitch Albom, who also wrote Tuesdays with Morrie in case anybody read that one. The City of Ember is probably my most favorite book and then followed by the sequel The People of Sparks. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and The Bondwoman's Narrative.

I like controversial books on politics. Try reading Animal Farm by George Orwell. It's a fable about farm animals that depicts the Joseph Stalin era of Russia. Here's a spoiler, I like Benjamin the donkey.....democrats.

No way! I'll give you one example:

The main character in "Green Eggs and Ham" doesn't like green eggs and ham, even though the only difference is the color, a fact he reiterates constantly to Sam-I-Am, until finally, under great pressure, he gives in and eats them, and finds that he likes them. Everyone is happy!

The Bible, meanwhile, has a God that changes the rules based on whoever's telling the story at the time or, most unforgivably, whoever wins the battle.

Damn you and your knowledge of story structure and Green Eggs and Ham. You win.... for the moment.

I still like the Bible, though. It's a cute little book. Jesus was a very likable protagonist.
