I don't think that iMovie can do everything that's required for a good abridged series. He uses Adobe Soundbooth or whatever it is, so he may actually have Adobe Premiere.

It is expensive, but I found Sony Vegas 9 for $45 when I bought it, which is horribly dirt cheap compared to the usual price for such amazing video editing...
