"Season Zero" aka "Series One" aka "The Shadow Games" was a Yu-Gi-Oh series that only aired in Japan because, to quote LK, "it was incredibly violent and depressingly bad." There were only 27 episodes, and most of the time they played games other than Duel Monsters (eg, "let's see if Kaiba can run over us with a giant evil robot before we figure out which lever to pull" or "can you shoot me before I blow you up"). Also, Kaiba had green hair, Hikari Bakura had green eyes, and Yugi had the most high-pitched voice imaginable. It was based off of the first part of the manga and there wasn't much continuity into "Series Two" which is the one everyone knows about.
It had its merits. A good laugh, for example.
