This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!'... and Gon's Balls will whisper 'First... comes... rock!' Hah! Made you stare at Naruto's Marshmallow! Pushing the logo off-center to drive TheOcean insane.

Well, most of 4Kids' stuff was really "for kids" back when I was kind of fresh to the whole "finding subs on the Internet", and given their concepts, I had no reason to believe the original anime wouldn't be the same. I mean, look at the stuff 4Kids dubs... but when I saw the Doma arc in Yu-Gi-Oh, I started to get interested. I mean, it's Dan Green. Plus, back then subbed YGO was next to impossible to find.

Yeah, I only found out the horrible truth later. I usually assume good faith where these things are concerned, but I kinda can't now.

To be fair until the advent of DVD subbed anime was fairly hard to come by. I honestly don't think I've ever seen a subbed anime on VHS and I watched my first anime some time on the early 90s. Plus until speeds above 56k became common place I doubt much stuff got fan subbed because it really wouldn't have been worth the time and expense.
Some people just like to act high and mighty (read as pretentious) and pretend that all they've ever watched are subs. In which case they're usually
A) Lying there ass off.
B) Only started watching anime in the last 5-10 years and like to think they're opinion is the be all and end all of every discussion.

Sorry I won't derail this thread anymore.

I read something about oldschool anime fan subing before the net became the place for subs.
*Runs away from circulation desk to find book* (I have a job in the NYIT campus library)
Got it now lets see in Cinema anime a collection article the article The americanization of anime and manga: Negotianting popular culture. Antonia Levi said that I did happen because it was a matter of pride they could only do this at cost or less. one pair used to spend as much as $10,000 a year making fansubs. There was also the method of watching it with a script in english in you hand but that had to be anyoying to have to look away from the screen.
Darn I wish i'd had a camera or tape recoder at I-con the sub vs dub panel turned into a history of fansubing and how the director goes about and modifiys the script when dubding.
Guestion does anybody read GX fanfiction? I sort of wonder if it's any good.

I usually don't read too many fanfics. I'm always too busy or engulfed in a discussion online. But I do admire the details and strengths or many fanfics that I've seen. They make me wish to have time to write more since I would like to write books one day.

Anyway, to be more on topic, has anyone picked up a copy of the first volume of the GX manga? I went to Borders earlier today to see if they had it and they didn't. *cue The Price Is Right losing music* That really was a let down for me since I was looking foreword all this week to get it. I kept on working through classes, which are only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the high point of college schedules, looking foreword to Friday. I could have ordered one through the store, but the last time I did that, they didn't send a notice that they had it until three weeks after the DVD was released. Oh well. At least I left with a copy of The Time Keeper's Daughter, which is an excellent book. On the plus side, I know where I can order it at a lower price and with free shipping. I'll order it later tonight and probably get it sometime next week or before Thanksgiving. Now that my long story is done with, did anyone else try to get a copy or actually get one?

I'm writing a fanfic right now. Or more appropriately, I was writing one and just stopped due to lack of inspiration. My fanfic is weird. It focuses on the card games. I don't really 'ship.

I hope that you'll be able to find it. If I'm lucky, my order of the manga will come in sometime this week. I can only hope.

Just so other people know this too, whether or not they watch the dub or sub, CN isn't going to air GX for awhile, it seems. They have an episode of Totally Spies on the time slot. Oh bother. I know that it isn't the best dub, obviously, but it has always been watchable to me. It was also getting pretty interesting and they left it on a cliffhanger. Well, maybe the UK will continue to be ahead of the US in terms of episodes. Then maybe I could find them online. It's either that or I wait for new episodes to air here or fansubs. While I don't mind watching fansubs, sometimes the information from the two different versions causes me to get a headache. Besides that, when I watch anime, I prefer not to read at the same time. But there's nothing wrong with simply watching the sub versions. I just prefer listening to the series in English. That's just me.

I never heard of the manga till now. Wow, every single animé from Japan seems to have a manga to go alongside it...

And Atemfangirl, I like the English version as well. I dunno if it's having to read the subtitles or just the lack of that British tone, but it's something.

Some times you have to give borders a few extra days to for the shipment to come in. I had to wait a few days for hellsing vol 8 to come in a few months ago. I'll flip through the maga and see if there are any good extras making it worth buying for me. I already have the chapters from Jump.
They can't stop airing new GX I need a reason to get up on Sat.

That is really true about Borders. The last time I ordered from them, it was a DVD though, they didn't receive it until two or three weeks after it was released. By that point, I had already gone to Best Buys to get it. I ordered the manga from DeepDiscountDVD.com, a really useful site since it has options for shipping. I wish that they would continue airing new GX episode too. Aside from Pokemon, that was my reason for waking up on Saturday. There are repeats of season three episodes on the 4KidsTV lineup, but they're only at the duel between Jaden and Viper right now. They might be able to catch up to where CN left off, but I would hate that since that would be a two month wait until actual new episodes aired. Maybe CN will give GX a weekday preimer slot, like with the other seasons. I usually don't like that approach, but I would take that over not having the episode at all.

@mentaldan19: Yeah, most anime series are based off of a manga. Anime that isn't based on a manga, like Pokemon and GX, get their own manga that's different from the series. I understand what you mean about the subtitles. Even though I do enjoy reading, I really don't want to do it while I'm watching something. But everyone is entitled to their opinions, of course.

I don't believe that most animated shows will be affected by the Writers' Strike. Most writers for cartoons aren't part of a union or in a different union altogether, like the Aminator Guild of America. It definately won't affect anime dubs, like GX here. The only cartoon shows that I've heard that it will affect are shows like Family Guy, South Park, and other prime time adult cartoons. I think that 4Kids either has non-union writers or they're from a different union. So that wouldn't be the reason for CN to take GX off its block. By the way, I completely support the writers. I hope that they get something from this strike since they definately deserve better money than what they have now.

Did anyone ever get vol one of the manga? I want to know if there are any good extras besides the free card?

I got the volume one of the manga on Monday. First off, it is so awsome. I knew that people were saying that it was good, but I didn't know it would be this good. I loved how the chapters mainly focus on the other characters, as apposed to solely Jaden like the anime pretty much does throughout most of season one. I especially loved the chapters about Syrus and the duel between him and Jaden. Not too surprising when you think about it. Not only was there some background on his character, but there was actual termoil within Jaden with deciding whether or not to attack his friend. Syrus's confidence was wonderful to see as well. I was so sad when the second volume wouldn't be released until next November. Yes, I know that I could get the chapters in SJ, but I'm not sure if I'll do that. Not only would I be getting it for fewer chapters than I would with a volume, but I would have to spend more money than I would if I just wait for the second volume. It always comes down to either buying now or later. Oh well. Hopefully Yu-Gi-Oh! R will come out before the second volume of GX does.

As for the extras, there is the free card of the Light and Darkness Dragon. There are also little comics about the creators of the manga before most of the chapaters, but I don't know if those were a part of the SJ releases.

no they weren't so it's now on my must buy yugioh manga list with all the dulist volumes I'm missing.
I have to say that I do enjoy how it doesn't follow the anime. I haven't figured out if they are just going to release volumes of R or print it in the english jump first like GX.
If you can't wait for more GX find unrapped Issues of shonen jump and read them in the store.

GX would be much better if it was Yugio DMX!
