Slim Lit
So my English teacher gave our class a fun little assignment, a transcription process called "Slim Lit." You take a piece of literature you've read and condition it into a poem. You don't have to merely abridge the story into a poem that just recounts the events. You can make it into somethign that mirrors underlying themes of the piece, what you drew from the piece, explicit depiction of characters, or even a mix of your assertions with it's assertions.
I decided to use two peices, and had the second contrast to and allude to the first. Please post your own Slim Lits. ^~^ Allegorical ouverture: Yearning secures insight Learning obscures light Should means enlight? Could scenes invite? What darkness incites That thoughtless delight King Leopold's Dissonance: I am the light that shined Righteous rigorous refraction refined I am the scene of darkness over autonomy The thoughtless means of your atrophy You are the elastic utilitarian swine Made for my catalytic aryan dine This is liberation This is desiccation Of all your fluid expectations for all your numbed sensations and innocuous claims of atrocity I conduct my symphony of anomie Yes, I admit, to your lithe homilly But, to wit, it falters to my soliloquy *inserts self deprecating comment* *awaits a subversing or qualifying statement* Last edited by Ave; 05-20-2010 at 06:47 PM. |
