This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!'... and Gon's Balls will whisper 'First... comes... rock!' Hah! Made you stare at Naruto's Marshmallow! Pushing the logo off-center to drive TheOcean insane.

If you want to see episodes on Youtube and are in the mood for something very different, type in Mononoke.
It's a horror type anime with different moral questions. I find it to be great with it's story, main character, and tradition artwork. But I realise it's not for everyone. It's also 12 episodes long.
Apparently, it's a spin-off from the last Ayakashi Samurai Horror Tales dvd called Bake-neko.

Pre-Tear is pretty good, and it's short, but I haven't watched it all yet.

ummmm

One that hasent been mentioned and was one of the greatest anime ive ever laid eyes on
S-ycred
Filled with action. Basically a story about inlanders and outlanders. The inlanders have lives of luxary while the outlanders live in poverty. The outlanders live in an area where (I forget exactly what hit it) a meteror or soemthing like that hit. Thus giving a select few the power to make matter into weapons. Things like super computers and fighting robots and the main character has an arm that changes into a super arm thingy lolz.
My explaniation isent all that good but I deff recomend you give it a watch.
About 25-26 episodes in all.

And I would second angelic layer. It was intresting to watch the fights and story unfold.

And code Geass is GREAT for anyone who loved deathnote. The plot line is just OMW. but it has like 52 episodes. I almost guareente though for code geass youll be clinging to your seat every episode.

Heh... Only a couple people said Cowboy Bebop... I recommend Cowboy Bebop to everyone, even non anime fans. It is that good. So here is my list.

1. Cowboy Bebop
2. FLCL
3. Trigun
4. Outlaw Star
5. Big-O

For Anime in the 50 Range:
1. Code Geass (My personal favorite)
2. Full Metal Alchemist
3. Ghost in a Shell

weiss kreuz and azumanga daioh are both about 25 episodes. :]
however, weiss kreuz has a two episode ova, as well as a 'sequel'; weiss kreuz gluhen.
i haven't watched gluhen, so i'm using the term 'sequel' loosely. it struck me more as being slightly au rather than a sequel, but i don't really know.

If you want your mind destroyed and all logic shredded, bombed, kicked and stampe on, shot at, and then bombed again for good measure, I recommend FLCL (I had to watch it at least twice to keep up, and that's never me)

Most have already been said but I'm throwing my opinion on these.

Code Geass is 2 seasons of about 25 episodes each.
The Melancholy of Haruihi Suzumiya is 14 episodes.
Gurren Lagann is 27 episodes.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is 26 episodes. (Note: Not everyone likes this one.)

Another fun show is Toonami's old americanime, IGPX.

13 Episodes:
Parnoia Agent
Serial Experiments Lain
Haibane Renmei
Boogiepop Phantom
39 Episodes (still counts):
Revolutionary Girl Utena
(Why has no one watched this :()
Movies:
Any Miyazaki (prehaps exempting Howl's Moving Castle or Nausicaa if you're picky but the manga of the latter is 10x better) and Grave of the Fireflies

*shrugs* Fair enough, although most mainstream go well beyond 50 eps.

The fact that nobody has yet brought up Samurai Champloo, any of the Gundam serieses/OVAs/movies, or Card Captor Sakura absolutely worries me.
I second the people who say Furi Kuri, Trigun (even if the anime is inferior), Cowboy Bebop, Geass, Haruhi, and all that good stuff.
May I also bring up Lucky Star and Azumanga Daioh.

Elfen Lied goes for 13 episodes and is the greatest thing I've ever seen in my life.
Only watch it if you can handle plentiful amounts of blood and nudity, though the main reason I love it so much is how well it's presented and how beautiful, powerful and touching the storyline is. The last episode made me cry.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Tactics (my fave series). It's only 25 Episodes long. It has one (or two) 'scenes'. I saw it on SciFi, and the dub wasn't all that bad.

There's Axis Powers Hetalia which about 26 episodes for the first series. But the episodes themselves are only five minutes and about the equivilant of about 6 normal length episodes.
A take on history by anthropomorphised (I think that's the right term) countries going through WW1 briefly, then WW2. It's funny and sweet but not fully complete.

good anime for under 30 eps!

Gurren lagann (out of control mechs, but at the same time a good plot and etc.)
Moyashimon (a very cute and homely anime about a college boy who can see germs, only they are adorable.)
Gravitation (I'm really surprised I haven't seen this on the list yet, it's shonen ai, but It's got a good plot.)
Shinesman (okay there is no way you can not watch this. 2 episodes, and lulzy. I recommend the dub.)
Desert punk (if you are into extraordinarily crude humor this is for you, YOU MUST WATCH THE DUB the sub isn't good. (I know I just said that))

and I'll think of more later.
