Official Nintendo 3DS Thread
So, the 3DS is becoming more and more relevant now what with the advent the price drop, ambassador programme, the prospect of a system update in November (adding 3D video recording and a revamped eShop), and the beginning of the release of all the good 3D titles in the run up to Christmas.
I feel it's time for a proper thread about the 3DS in preparation for the release of all the following games: October - December 2011: - Spider-Man: Edge of Time - Tales of the Abyss - Shinobi 3DS - Super Mario 3D Land - Mario Kart 7 - Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snaker Eater - Pokemon Rumble Blast - Tekken 3D: Prime Edition January 2012 onwards: - Resident Evil Revelations - Kid Icarus: Uprising - Heroes of Ruin - Fire Emblem - Paper Mario - Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance - Animal Crossing - Luigi's Mansion 2 Unknown release date as yet: - Batman 3DS - Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle - Super Smash Brothers - Pokemon (possibly) Plus the November System Update that'll add 3D video recording, a new eShop and new StreetPass Quests... yeah, the system's really starting to come into its own. So, main questions, as well as discussing the above games, are: What do you think of the 3DS system now? What is your friend code? (Mine is 2750-1109-7634) What games are you most looking forward to? How are you doing with all the StreetPass Quests and the Puzzle Collections? Personally I have managed to get well over 30 people in my Mii StreetPass Plaza... not doing fantastically on the StreetPass Quest, but the Puzzle Swap is going pretty well, although the last few people I've passed haven't had any new puzzle pieces for me, which kinda sucks >_> I'm also going to sticky this thread so that discussion on all new releases can keep on going without the danger of this thread being lost to obscurity. |

I don't have a particular site, I just trawl through the internet for stuff ... just type "fire emblem 3ds" into Google
I don't think there's really been much more news about it. It was announced a short while ago at the Japanese conference >_> |

Also a lot of the release dates I've mentioned in the first post have been constantly changed by the publishers and developers... I just haven't kept up on this thread.
Also, I dunno about you guys but I've now got my second lot of ambassador programme games... plus the eurosport app. I hear we're getting a messaging feature within the week too. Well, Europe is, don't know about the US |

Despite my trepidation, the Eurosport app is pretty good. It pretty much solely features a show called WATTs... which appears to be like a sports version of AMV Hell XD

I got Super Mario 3D land and Pokemon: Rumble Blast for Christmas. Rumble Blast is surprisingly addicting.

I got the same, and I agree with your sentiment. I love Super Pokemon Rumble (as it is called in Europe)... in my eyes it's defying the "mediocre" rating the critics have slapped on it.
On Super Mario 3D Land - Bugger me, a Mario game I can actually play to completion... although this does mean it's not difficult at all (especially with the Tanuki suit, which is the Mario universe equivalent of god-moding), the visuals, extra depth option and sheer variety of play styles in each (albeit very short) level definitely makes it really fun to play... it's almost as addictive as Super Pokemon Rumble I'm going out to get Mario Kart 7 tomorrow with some of my Christmas money... it'll be the second Mario Kart title I've ever owned (the first being Mario Kart Super Circuit which I got from the second stage of the ambassador programme a short while ago XD ) Also, Europeans, I'd recommend registering 2 3DS titles with Club Nintendo before the end of January so you can get the Kid Icarus 3D Classics game for free from the eShop. The list of compatible titles is on the club nintendo page (but not on the US site) ... yeah I don't know how that'll swing for you yanks >_> Damn Nintendo, you sure like giving out free games, and I'm not complaining! XD |

Well the 3DS had a great month for sales in Japan. Sold almost 1.5 million during one month in December. I'm glad the 3DS is picking up after the rough start it had.
I bought mine just last week and I love it! |

sorry to bomb your thread guys but what is so great about the 3DS?

It's not bombing the thread at all, it's a perfectly valid question.
I want to be the first to say that the 3D effect is certainly not the best feature of the machine. It's the most hyped, but there's so much more going on with it. The graphics quality and power of the 3DS is a hell of a lot better than the DS and DSi ... we're up to gamecube levels now. The 3D effect, even on minimal, does add that extra little bit of clarity to the already impressive graphics. Games like the Ocarina of Time remake really show up the graphical capabilities of the console. The built-in games using things like StreetPass and Augmented Reality are addictive on their own, plus the StreetPass games have recently been expanded by system updates. StreetPass and SpotPass can give useful add ons to the cartridge games, and there's also the promise of the development of DLC later on down the line. The browser is basic, but surprisingly useful. The friends system is still being expanded, and is getting better. Online gaming akin to Xbox Live or PSN is in it's infancy and displayed well in Mario Kart 7. Plus it's been a lot more stable so far. There have been several free game downloads, and the eShop is awesome even though it could look better. The video viewing and recording facilities are great as well. It's just the beginning for the 3DS... it's growing all the time with each update, and new content is being brought out regularly. It's also the format for all the best upcoming games. The backwards compatibility with DS and DSi games/ware is a nice touch too. It has its faults, but they are far outweighed by the sheer amount of good stuff in my opinion. Others can add to this if they want. I just love the 3DS lol |

So, some more release date updates:
On 27th Jan Europe is getting Resident Evil Revelations, and it's coming bundled with that new circle pad accessory (I dunno about you guys but I'm not a fan of the accessory, taints the look of the 3DS a bit). ONM have given the game a 90% rating, so it's looking good so far. Rhythm Thief and the Emperor's Treasure is now coming in February if you're interested... VVVVVV is coming to the eShop this month sometime, looks pretty good. Planet Crashers is coming in March, but from the looks of it, it's one to avoid. Plague-style. Heroes of Ruin hasn't changed its vague release date, but it has been well reviewed. ONM are concerned that the single player mode will suck slightly, but that the multiplayer mode is actually going to be amazing... basically we're getting a MMORPG style game here... The first look at Kid Icarus Uprising is pretty awesome. Animal Crossing is gradually revealing more stuff, getting better all the time. Other than all that, if you're thinking of buying Frogger 3D... don't. |

Revolutionary, probably not.
But it is promising, and apparently delivering, the wide sweeping changes that people thought they would get in City Folk, and more... |

I only have 3 3DS games so far:
Sonic Generations Super Mario 3D Land Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games I definitely want Mario Kart 7, and I might get Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time 3D, but there's not really much out for me at the moment. I see another Super Mario title is being worked on, and there's LEGO City Stories, which will be refreshing seeing as it's away from the lisenced LEGO games that TT has worked on (I wonder if it's also a 'test' game to see if the 3DS can handle better LEGO games - all three previous LEGO games were just PSP ports in 3D) |

It's very much an arcade-action game where you have to memorize levels to get the best scores. The story itself might last you 5 or 6 hours on your first playthrough, considering that you will die an awful lot.
In other words, it's a more old-fashioned game where the idea is to play levels over and over to perfect your skill rather than to give a long, single-play experience. |

@Dark-kun: Sounds like fun, but I'll probably give it a miss. I might end up getting it a few years down the line when it's in some kind of preowned bargain bucket, as most games are wont to do.
So, completely contrary to my last post about the Circle Pad Pro, I bought Resident Evil Revelations about a week or so ago after enjoying the demo quite a bit (it did not come bundled with the accessory, unfortunately)... Today, I gave in and bought the Circle Pad Pro. Such a good move, it makes Resi SO, SO, SO much easier to control! In related news, I tried the Metal Gear Solid 3D demo out without the circle pad, and it's not great. I then tried it with the accessory, and it's still a bit crappy. The cinematic frame rate is actually appalling, and the control scheme even with the circle pad is a bit iffy. I'd be interested to hear everyone else's views on the MGS demo? |

I have the full game of MGS and I enjoy it quite a bit. It's hard to control at first but it gradually gets easier. Combat is one of the hardest aspects, but you're really supposed to use stealth more than fighting.

Did they improve on the cinematics for the full version?
It's not out properly over here yet |
