Basically, I like it and it's not the best show ever in any sense, but it's still good enough that I'll tell anyone interested a bit more on the subject (I may not be one of those overzealous fans but I know just as much as them at this point).

A lot of that is either joking or just fans getting out out of hand thanks to the whole thing that happened with Derpy Hooves. Cut out the making it canon part (which really I've never heard of, only hoping it happens on it's own or whatever at the most), it's fine by me. Most of the characterizations are pretty good.
