Talk about the godliest band in the universe, Nightwish. For those of you that don't know about the godliest band in the universe, Nightwish: Nightwish is a symphonic metal band from Finland that is godly. They played godly symphonic power metal up until Century Child. From Century Child after, they just played symphonic metal. They recently got a new singer who is, unfortunately, not as godly as their old singer. They're going to release a new album this September, which I am hoping will not suck.
Discuss Nightwish All of Nightwish's albums The old female singer (the godly one) The new female singer (the kind-of-okay one) Bands that are like Nightwish but obviously not as godly |

Since they fired Tarja Turunen they're irrelevant.

The new album leaked a week or two ago. I heard it. It's very disappointing. The album has 13 tracks, and most of them suck. There are only a few decent ones.

They fired Tarja? D= I really like the band but I never look into band members or history and stuff like that so I didn't know until now. But hearing that Tarja's gone is going to really put me off. I mean the guy who sings the male parts ruined it enough but no Tarja? Taht's like... blasphemy! She was my freaking idol!

They fired her for the dumbest reason too: for having a life outside of the band.

She was a large part of what made up Nightwish. Its really not the same without her.

I used to love Nightwish. But after Tarja left, it just fell apart. I like the new singer and all, she has a lovely voice, but just the lyrics and the new sound...I don't like it. It's a shame, because now they come to America to play concerts, but now I hate them! <img src='/images/emoticons/smiley6.png'>

I absolutely love Nightwish! The most recent CD is my favorite.
My favorite song ever is "The Poet and the Pendulum." <3 |

Wow, this is an old topic.
I also love Nightwish. Tarja is... brilliant. But Annete Olzon is an ugly fucking gimp. My favorites are, without a doubt, Ghost Love Score and Passion and the Opera. The Poet and the Pendulum is the only good track off Dark Passion Play. ...I still like Epica better, though. 'Consign to Oblivion' is a freaking masterpiece. |

While I wouldn't go that far, she does seem to enjoy being Tarja's replacement a little too much for me.

I just hate her. She's not 5% the singer Tarja was.
She turned a metal band into a pop band... |

honestly, i like the new singer...
I hate pop music, and i don't feel she made the band any less epic. |

i don't like the new singer and because of this they've fallen off my list of bands. tarja was amazing and they just don't sound like nightwish anymore to me. sad because they were so amazing. i'm just glad i got to see them before tarja left.

Yeah, that's the problem. Tarja, for me, it was made Nightwish amazing. Now that she's gone, they're kinda like a failed Within Temptation.

orchestral metal=awesome. my boyfriend introduced me to nightwish with The Poet and the Pendulum. it is fantastic. I haven't heard very much of their old stuff, but I think I like the new singer better. she sounds less conceited impo.

They remind me of all other symphonic metal music. And coincidently, all symphonic metal music reminds me of them.

I'm starting to get into Nightwish now.

No surprise here. Many symphonic metal bands cite Nightwish as an influence. Nightwish was one of the first bands in the genre.

I love nightwish :) Okay, I never really listened it before even though I knew about it, but couple of weeks ago I found them, you know, properly. I can't say that I'm fan, since I don't know even half of their songs, but I like very very very much those I know.
I think the old singer, Tarja Turunen, was waaay better and I prefer songs where she sings. Heee now I want to listen Nightwish X3 |

she's just not a metal singer her singing Nightwish is like Phil Collins singing Black Sabbath it's possible but it shouldn't be done |

Or Disturbed singing Genesis. (Wait, that's been done.) Anyway, yes, Nightwish was pretty cool, but they've been just unraveling recently.

I think a big reason I like old Nightwish is because of Tarja's detached delivery. If you really examine the lyrics, they are ridiculous childish fantasies, but Tarja sings them like they were epic and that's what they become. The band just become her backup, honestly. The way she sings them, you get the idea that she's not really clear on their meaning... and that's why it works.
I mean, if you sit down and look at the lyrics of Century Child, they are silly ("As he died, he will return to die in me again"? Um, ew), but Tarja lets you not think about them by singing them with vocal power. |

Actually, yeah, I totally agree. Another example is Dark Chest Of Wonders - the title says it all.
One song that has amazing lyrics though, IMO, is Ghost Love Score. The song is... quite simply beyond incredible. Last edited by Ohara; 12-21-2009 at 05:55 PM. |
