Hii.
So this is 2 weeks old...but that's cool. PATD is life. I share your love. I saw them twice in concert, on the Nothing Rhymes With Circus tour and on the Honda Civic tour... They're freaking awesome, IMO. And Brendon is sexier than sex. |

Ahhh fuck you are so lucky... I saw them on the Civic Tour and I wish I saw their Nothing Rhymes with Circus tour. I miss their crazy makeup and old songs but at the same time I am in love with Pretty. Odd.
They are an amazing band. And you can have Brendon, I get Ryan ;) |

I agree Panic at the Disco are bad, but I'm pretty sure what you consider to be better is also rather questionable.

The fact they sound like women, thjat fact they have no real talent, the fact that the singer only sings ine or two notes, and the fact they are simply overated.
Happy kid? |

That was old Panic. They have also publicly stated that emo is bullshit.
The singer only sings one or two notes?? that Is definitely true that every song only has only two notes in it. I'm glad we cleared that one up. But tell me, what band has talent in your opinion, ocrinaoftimefreak? |

You are arguing that they arn't emo, fair enough. There is no way you can succeed in that arguement as I'm pretty sure 97% of their fanbase is either female or female representing males. Maybe their music isn't technically emo, as emo means emotional hardcore and there are very few emotional hardcore bands still around. But as far as the stereotype of emo is.. they fit the bill perfectly.
and also talent as nothing to do with opinion whatsoever. Panic! at the Disco have very little talent but are well marketed and have a prodominantly female fanbase. Most bands with real talent don't appeal to mainstream audiences and the masses tend to consume complete shit without knowing of far superior music they can't even be bothered to find. |

They fit the bill? Define the bill for me, Chidori. And you like My Chemical Romance, aren't they on that bill too? Even more so I bet.
Talent is opinion. It depends on how you look at it. As for Panic at the Disco, I say they've got talent, you say they don't. There is two opinions. And for the whole "mainstream is shit" crap, I listen to plenty of bands that are, and aren't mainstream. I listen to music I like, not music that mtv tells me to like, and isn't that all that really matters? |

It's hilarious how you didn't notice my sarcasm when I mentioned My Chemical Romance in that fall out boy thread and if you want to know what the bill is scroll up to that picture I posted earlier.
Talent is not opinion, if two people were watching a tennis match between Nadal and Federer and one of the two people said they weren't talented they would be wrong. If you define talent as being able to write stupidly simple songs and whine like a fool then yes they have bucketloads of it. Not once did I say mainstream music is shit, I said a majority of it is which is incredibly true. Compare 50 Cent to Jedi Mind tricks, Compare The Killers to Oceansize. I don't hate music when it's mainstream, I hate it when it's shit. A few of my favourate bands are mainstream and the reason they are mainstream is because they have become popular due to their talent and not their image and marketing. But alas, taste is subjective so who am I to judge. |

Well viarules, I'm here to side with you on the pro-Panic side. Even though you've given up. But I'd like to put in my two cents.
IMO, Panic hasn't really been very mainstream as of late. Yes, definitely during the Fever You Can't Sweat out, they were quite well-known and popular, but while they were said to be like Fall Out Boy on drugs, they had a different feel and style than FOB (unless maybe FOB's really old stuff was more similar, I've only heard Infinity On High and some of the From Under the Cork Tree stuff). I don't really know what was with the funky makeup and costumes and stripper dancer girls, but hey, they made it work and people liked it. Pretty. Odd. is very different, to the dismay of many. I think they lost a lot of fans (the hardcore ones stayed, the passive ones were like "wtf" and left) and they may have gained a few, because it was so different and apparently Beatles-esque (some of the CD is downright bizarre...Folkin' Around earned a stunned silence from me the first time I heard it, and not in a good way). It got much better reviews than the first album for whatever reason, though the public liked AFYCSO more. I get what viarules was saying about how talent is opinion. Chidori, in your tennis analogy, obviously athletic talent isn't opinion. But there are many different types of good voices. Maybe Brendon and Ryan's voices aren't your cup of tea, but others (me included) like them. Actually, Ryan's voice took getting used to, it's rather more generic punk-y than Brendon's, who's voice I find very unique. Ryan's songwriting is very strange, I have to say, but because I love those boys to death, I'm just like Oh Panic, you and your antics. Maybe my like for their music is partially influenced by my like for THEM, at least now. I actually disliked I Write Sins when it came out (though I think this might be because it was invading PunchMuch, and it was preventing me from seeing the Stickwitu video :P), but then I gave it another listen, and loved it, then listened to the rest of the album later. I didn't discover the hotness that is Brendon Urie until later. Anyway, I'm done with my pointless blabbering. So...yeah. |

When I saw that post I thought I was going to have some detailed points against what I was saying but alas most of it is you displaying your fandom. The only point I managed to pick out was you seemingly agreeing with the 'Talent is opinion' sewage viarules mentioned before, which is just rediculous in every sence of the word. What you are saying is that you believe they have talented vocalists because you enjoy how they sound. Firstly, I never mentioned vocalists specifically.. in fact when i was mentioning talent that didn't even venture into my mind and secondly, you mentioning saying you think they are talented because you enjoy it is just plain closed minded. I enjoy how Greg Puciato and Johnny Cash sound vocally in their respective genres but I would never claim they are talented as vocalists, because there are thousands who could replicate what they do with minimal difficulty, this is the same with whoever sings in Panic at the disco and all the other generic bands of their genre swarming the music scene these days. You enjoying them does not mean they have talent, it means you enjoy them. This is not debatable. Just to hammer my point home a bit more I'll give you an example like my tennis analogy more related to music. Stand John petrucci next to a child playing smoke on the water on an acoustic guitar, many people may enjoy how what the child is playing sounds.. they may even like it far more than John Petrucci's back catalogue of guitar work but if you were to deny he is talented and the young boy is not, you would be wandering aimlessly around crazyville with a pillowcase on your head which you could have sworn was the crown jewels.
Oh, and viarules if you think I was displaying hatred through what I've been saying you are gravrely mistaken. Just because I am right and strongly disagree with what you are saying does not mean I hate you, that is plain foolish thinking. |

Oh, i dont know, a REAL band like metallica, Machine Head, Green day... Basically anything that isnt emo.
And dearie, any band that uses silly sounds in the background, has extremely girly men and wears more makeup that your mother working nights kinda classifies itself as emo. (Note: Black metal is probaly the only exception to that rule) |
