I didn't see an Elfen Lied topic in here so I thought I'd start one...
So what are your thoughts on this short anime? Good? Bad? Too bloody for your wimpy little squeamish stomach? I myself found it very very good...I liked the action and drama..oh, except.. THAT GIRL! Yuka! I mean like in the middle of a crisis she'll be all OMG Kohta pay attention to me >=( *bitchslap* That was the only bad part of the anime. XD Anyways...your thoughts? And do you think they should/will make a sequel? Who do you think is at the door at the end? |

I loved it; and no I don't think they should make a sequel. I liked Elfen Lied because it new when to stop, unlike a lot of animé. I don't remember that but I'm guessing it was after Lucy "dies" and we're left wondering if it was Lucy at the door? Could be horribly wrong, haven't watched it in over a year and I have a terrible memory.

Excellent, excellent anime. (But you should've gathered that from gathered that from my avatar.) Like X3RO, I haven't see it lately, but I am convinced that it was Lucy at the door at the end. I'm not sure if it was the Lucy personality or the Nyu one, but I still believe that she was the person.
What I loved about it was the whole "who is the real monster?" aspect to the series. Lucy was very much a murderous women and rarely thought twice about slicing someone to shreds, but at the same time, the only reason she acted like that was because of how she was treated by humans for being different (which has been an aspect real life humans have been dealing with since the end of time - only this time the victim can fight back). |

Mmm...I found it okay. Definitely a maliciously purposeful cliffhanger, which I kind of scoff at, but whatever.
I just found the nudity and blood a bit too...purposeful at times. I give credit for trying to be "realistic", but there are some scenes where I think they absolutely enjoy doing the mundane things they do. For example, Nana had a dream where due to burning money, she was tied to a cross. However, it was naked of all things. I asked myself, why? Was that necessary, weren't they trying to show the human nature without hindrance? I'd like it if it was a bit longer and went into more detail of each, but otherwise, it was just a bunch of lolis tearing each other apart. With blood. |

Elfen Lied is the bestest other than FLCL. Elfen Lied is just too long.

Elfen Lied is only 13 episodes...compared to anime like Chobits (26 episodes), Death Note (37), FMA (51) and Naruto (200+) that's not really that long. I mean really it's a decent length. If you make it shorter, say 10 eps, you'd spend the first 5 fleshing out the characters and plot, then having to try and rush it to it's end.

What? Elfen Lied is one of the shortest animes out there.
I have to agree with wrexness completely. At first I was kind of taken back by all the blood and nudity, because it broke new grounds for me. It doesn't bother me, though. I personaly think thats what makes it is great. They don't drag it on forever, either. I like how you can't really relate to any of the characters either. (At least for me) Lucy is pretty much unrelatible because whens the last time you had vectors coming out your body? Same goes for Nana and 36. About the only one anyone could relate to is the girl that starts with an M with the dog Wanta, and side characters. There are some parts that really hit a certain emotion in you, to. |

I'd wish that someone could tell me that it is for sure that it is Lucy at the door in the last episode. I hate cliffhanger endings, they always leave me depressed and make my heart hurt, quite literally.
Also, in my opinion I don't count the scenes in which the Diclonus are naked as "nude scenes", because they have no genitalia and only have nipples but no breasts (excluding Lucy because she is first generation diclonus, therefore more human). |

Well, no one can be for sure if it was Lucy, but more then likely it was her. She spoiler: [ lost her horns in the last episode ] so its probably her.
Lucy wasn't the first generation, either. I belive shes the first female, but shes not the first generation, [ the boy thats in charge of the all buissness is, since hes way older then any of them. ] Second, they are nude scenes because theres nudity. It doesn't matter if the lower parts are shown its still nudity. You never see boobs on tv, because its nudity. It doesn't matter if they're not human anyways, I mean they shouldn't show tentacle porn on TV would they? "Now, is not human so those things that look like penis's aren't really so it must be okay." |

True you can't relate to Lucy as she isn't human, but she suffered abuse from people her own age, and met with deceit, cruelty and isolation as she grew up. I hope you haven't met any of those in your youth but of course many have...

It's an amazing anime...too amazing to be 13 episodes long. That's my main problem with the series, and why it doesn't stand at the top of my list of anime.

They probably didn't kill people with vectors though, did they? ;) Thats why they're pretty much unrelatible because they're not human and thats why they're treated so badly in the first place.

Elfen Lied is one of my favorite animes. I can't really think of words to describe it other than that it's incredible. In regards to some of the comments posted earlier, I think that 13 episodes was perfect. I would have loved to watch more Elfen Lied, but I think the fact that it's so short is what made it great. I think a second season would make the anime only go down in quality. There have been a lot of good shows/movies and whatnot brought down by another season/movie etc.
*spoilers below* With regards to the ending, I have seen a lot of different interpretations but the one I accept is that it is Nyu (Lucy). The reason being is that the music box represents Lucy and that the clock represents Nyu. With the box stopping, Lucy and her past evil is dead and with the clock starting, Nyu is alive. Therefore I believe it is Nyu..or a kind Lucy..at the door. |

Nya, I think that's too literal an interpretation of "relating." If that was the case, only a handful of characters in all of anime would be relatable. (And that list shrinks because I "obviously" can't relate to female characters, being a man and all.) I don't think that characters are relatable because of what they are - but who they are. And Lucy is relatable because at her core, she's just a person who wants to be loved and accepted for who she is, and it upsets her when people discriminate against her solely because of her differences. How is that not relatable?

In a whole its relatable, but seeing as how all these other stuff comes into play like her not being human and also being an experiment, makes it unrelatable.
See, the way shes being discriminated is unrelatable because all us are humans (that I know of). You can relate her, but you could never fully relate to her. |

Again, I think you're getting too microscopic. That's like saying if you have a significant difference from someone else (i.e. race, orientation, gender), that you can't completely relate to them. If that were the case, I would only be able to relate to white males who live in my town, grew up in a military family, like video games, anime, and some sports, wear glasses, be currently attending college for a BS in Computer Science, etc etc etc. If any one of those things (among a slew others I couldn't possibly list in a lifetime) is different, then I can't completely relate to them by that logic. (Not to mention there's some room for debate as to whether she's actually non-human or just a more highly evolved human, which - while different - would indeed make her human.)
I think we'll just have to agree to disagree, but I prefer to look at this from a macroscopic level: Lucy is being treated like hell just because she's different (because of her genetics - something completely out of her control), and she was just pushed too far and fought back. To me, the method of mistreatment/vengeance is completely irrelevant; it's the general situation and the emotion that truly matter. |

I still stand by what I said.
I don't like when things are relatable, because it makes me whatever it is less. When something actually trys to relate to something, mostly in books, anime, or movies it makes it seem like they're just trying to get more views. So stop trying to make it relatable, because you'll ruin the series for me! Oh and I don't think Elfen Lied is like that. Of course I'm not from Japan though, so maybe Japanese people could more closely relate to some of the things? |

OK fine she's not human, but when you relate to someone you don't generally do it physically, it's more emotional.
Also, yes Lucy was picked on because of her horns, people are picked on for their various deformaties, it's the same thing. No they can't use vectors to unleash bloody revenge, but if they have the will they tend to do it in their own sick way. Sorry to argue like this I just feel liking a series because you can't relate to the characters seems a little...odd. |

Well, we're too different people aren't we?! Just because people like different things doesn't make it wrong.
You could easily pick on, Hobo202 because they don't like bloody things, or Elfen Lied for that matter. People didn't things and take them in different ways, if don't like it, then its too bad. Its not your life anyways, why should you even care. By the way, Elfen Lied in general IS odd, so get use to, "odd" things because they happen everday. And as I already stated before, I said that in general I suppose people could relate her, but really I doubt anyone could have THAT much in common with a serial killer super human. If you do, you might want to go see a professional. |
