This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!'... and Gon's Balls will whisper 'First... comes... rock!' Hah! Made you stare at Naruto's Marshmallow! Pushing the logo off-center to drive TheOcean insane.

That probably explains your misuse of the word 'none', then.

I am still amazed by how few Standard Chinese (Mandarin) speakers there are here. :(

It's nice to see you guys nitpick the smallest of mistakes in your own language, but don't bother to learn others languages properly and most americans don't bother with english either.

why is everyone always calling it "American"? Canada and Mexico for example are part of North-America as well.

If I had to guess, I'd say it has something to do with Americans referring to themselves as from the U.S.A. It'd be strange to call themselves the U.S.A.-ins. As far as I know, Canadians and Mexicans don't refer to themselves as Canadian Americans or Mexican Americans either. Common language trends tend to evolve along the easiest paths.

See: People are lazy in their speech patterns and this is one of the results over an extended period of time.

Did you not know that the United States of America are the Americas - those other places you speak of are part of the federation, as well, they just do not know it yet.

Nan-mei zhou ren fangxin, fangxin, wo zhi kai wanxiao, ni xiang taiduo.

If you can read and understand that, then you can judge me. (Oh and I can write it in Cantonese and Japanese, as well, if you would like.)

Honestly, Standard Chinese (or Mandarin, if we are using its erroneous name) is actually really easy. Its grammar is clear and straight forward. Its phonics are a pain at first, but when you realise that they only 1052 sound combinations in comparison to English's 52,000 plus, you begin to realise that it is not too bad; besides 90 per cent of native speakers cannot enunciate correctly, so you will probably be OK. Relatively speaking, it has a very small vocabulary list and like German it prefers to use homophones to make adjectives and nouns. Its punctuation is basically non-existent. Its semantics are, generally speaking, very logical and its syntax follows just two basic rules based on time and size.

As for Characters, they are a piece of piss once you get past that first bump of thinking they are difficult. Psychologically, our brains better equipped to memorise pictorial scripts than phonical ones. Furthermore, although writing them by hand is laborious, it is not actually difficult and takes a lot less brain-power than trying to spell things out using a phonic script. Once you have learnt about 100 characters, they begin to just stick and memorising them becomes no more difficult than memorising a picture you have seen before.

Plus, knowing Chinese characters makes learning kanji really easy; well, so long as you are not a native speaker. For some reason, Kanji seems to make native speakers go insane because the meanings not exactly the same as the meaning they were taught as children.

my problem with Kanji was that i didn't see any concrete reading for any of them....Death Note brought up a good example with how Light's name (raito) is written with the character for moon (getsu)

This is actually why native Chinese speakers go insane when they learn Kanji, but learners of Chinese and Japanese find it rather beneficial.

Chinese Characters express meaning, while Kanji expresses concepts...mangas are particularly 'creative' with this idea and therefore also particularly difficult to grasp at first.

It is hard to explain without being able to write the characters, but Light's name is a nice example. In the original Chinese script, the characters representing "liang-yue" meant moon and the word moon was, therefore, created using the character for brightness and the character for moon/month (seeing as the moon controlled the passing of the months.) The reason brightness was included is because the moon was seen to be the bright light which lit up the night sky and showed the passing of time.

In Japanese, the liang character was dropped completely (and is only used in names now, I believe) leaving just yue (or getsu) to mean moon; however, the concept of the moon as a bright light in the otherwise impenetrable darkness of night remained. This means that yue on its own can be used in Japanese to represent 'light'. I believe this is mostly done in a poetic sense of a light where there is otherwise just darkness. To fully appreciate Light's name, you need to read it as a whole - he is literally called 'light god of the night' or 'god who lights the night'; well, something along those lines anyway. Unfortunately, as I am sure you are already aware, these names/meanings become somewhat less dramatic once you translate them into English because English is more contextual than Japanese, which is, as I said, more conceptual.

Ugh... You just had to bring up that fucking stupid argument didnt you? Its really a dumb question. Excuse my rudeness but Im sick of this question being asked.

U.S.A.=United States of America. Nothing to do with imperialism, because everywhere else in The Americas were colonies. They were then independent states who the decided to unify to defend themselves from the British and other imperialist forces.
Meanwhile, United States of Americans still sounds like a place
Thus, Americans.

Americas=North and South America, or a whole continent in some countries, usually referred to as "The Americas". Since The Americas are divided into North and South America (and sometimes Central America in English speaking countries, if we wished to refer to a collective, since cultrally North and South America are completely different, we say North Americans or South Americans, as there is hardly any situation where we would need to mention all people of The Americas as a collective group due the the massive cultural differences. If we do, we will say something along the lines of the people of The Americas.

Anyways, rant over. A WILD GRIM APPEARS.

Mine sadly looks very plain next to the Rydia cosplayer. But, there probably was not much else I could do with that character.

SPORTS SPORTS SPORTS SPORTS SPORTS SPORTS SPORTS SPORTS

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORTS- On one hand, I'm kinda surprised how few pictures I'm in, other than the group photo that we're still waiting to get back the HQs of, but on the other, I was moving around nonstop trying be as social as possible until near the end, where I wound up manning the music for 2 hours. Since I'm not in cosplay, it's not a huge surprise. One day, that Morpheus cosplay will happen. One day.

WIMPS! Sure, as opposed to last year, where I was one of the most active players, rather than this year, where it was only my turn to kick once (the other team was at kick forever, but we STILL won again this year by one point), at least I'm not opposed to being active. I just don't have much opportunity for it. :V
