After watching the first series I read much of the manga, but never finished. I watched the movie a few weeks ago on AdultSwim, and put FMA back on my list to watch.

Have you seen Hunter x Hunter, and if so, what was your opinion of it?

grim, they did leave some stuff out of Brotherhood that had made it into the first anime (the mining town Yoki was from, for example), but otherwise was a straight adaptation of the manga (whose chapters tended to be around 30-50 pages each)

That's a joke based on truth. You're not alone in having white screen flashes on windows 8.1. There seems to be a rash of problems on 8.1 with white screen flashing using onchip intel graphics. It is entirely in the realm of possibility that the game isn't using your video card and is instead using Intel. Start minecraft, join the server at minecraft.megaultrachicken.com, hit F3 and make sure on the right hand side of the debugging information it's listing the geforce and not Intel HD Graphics

Also, Mojang has released a new installer/launcher. https://minecraft.net/download you should give that a try.

Like it's really CPU intensive?

All are key components that can be a bottleneck on performance. Minecraft isn't the most... graphically intense game, but generally if someone has a shitty card that would impact performance, as it would if they had a shitty processor, or lacked ram.
