At Military bases, they kind of have to.
Also, I still get carded every time I buy cigarettes or other smoking paraphernalia and I'm well over the legal smoking age in this country.

My mum does the same at her work, she works in a hospital and in her department there are often Doctors and Consultants popping in and out for patient data. Most of them she knows, but occasionally new ones come from different parts of the country, and so often they have this huge sense of entitlement 'Don't you know i'm so and so person working with famous research doctor ect' and her reply is 'No, I don't, because you're not wearing any ID, and in any case I don't care, please leave and come back when you have proof of who you are and why you're supposed to be here'.
