This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!'... and Gon's Balls will whisper 'First... comes... rock!' Hah! Made you stare at Naruto's Marshmallow! Pushing the logo off-center to drive TheOcean insane.

I was watching the other abridged movie when I noticed a weird flash on part of the screen. I rewound it to find that, for a little bit, it says "Tyler Durden was here." I seached Tyler Durden on the forum but found nothing. What is this?

If you're curious, it happens at 5:24

Hey, wow, I never noticed that. That’s a great find you made there! (I feel inclined to call it Super Special Awesome).

Anyway, here’s the explanation, since you seem to want one. There’s this movie called Fight Club, maybe you’ve heard of it, and in it there is a character named Tyler Durden (he‘s played by Brad Pitt). In the movie, it’s around a half hour until the character is introduced, but at several points during the first half hour or so, an image of Tyler Durden appears on screen for a fraction of a second. In fact, it’s so fast that most people don’t catch it the first time (I know I didn’t, and even when I noticed it, it was a while before I saw all of them).

In the movie (Fight Club) the brief, split-second images of Tyler Durden are a possible reference to the concept of subliminal messaging by showing very brief images of somethingorother. It’s also a possible reference to the fact that Tyler Durden has a part time job as a projectionist, during which he inserts single frames of pornography into family films. Also, it looks cool.

The insert in the Other Abridged Movie, which I never noticed until now, is a direct reference to this. Also the black circle which appears under it (the “cigarette burn”) is a direct reference to the movie.

You can a scene from the movie that may put it into perspective here:

For an example of a split-second Tyler Durden flash, look at this short clip:

But seriously, if you’ve never seen Fight Club, you’re missing out. I recommend it..
