This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!'... and Gon's Balls will whisper 'First... comes... rock!' Hah! Made you stare at Naruto's Marshmallow! Pushing the logo off-center to drive TheOcean insane.

Scream, even though it's almost a comedy
Shaun of the Dead, even though it IS a comedy
Alien, even though it's sci-fi.

And the 1960's Psycho.

...I don't watch many horror movies, sadly. ):

Ironic that I mentioned I had a feeling this topic would spring outta no where because I'm psychic like that. If there's going to be any images of horror characters please put up a warning in yout title though as well 1) We may have young kiddies surfing the forums and 2) I happen to have a huge phobia of a certain horror icon, I can't stand to be anywhere near any images of DVD's or watch the movies on TV.

But whilst we're at it my favourite horror movies would have to be The Evil Dead Triology ( Though the last two don't really count.) Sleepwalkers, She-Creature ( The more recent one), Shaun of the Dead and Silent Hill

Nightmare on Elm Street, Disturbia (I liked it), Shaun of the Dead and Scream. Though would A Clockwork Orange count? Some say it's a type of horror.

I wouldn't have thought a clockwork orange counted - though it did scare me so what do I know. Anyway I quite like halloween, mostly cos I enjoy shouting at teh telly "take the weapon with you when you run don't leave it there for him to use you stupid cow!" great fun. I alos really liked the ring (and I don't care who knows it). umm.. well thats all that comes to mind at the moment.

The Ring for the scariness factor
Alien for its good plot
I pretty much consider all other horror films laughable that is I laugh at them...and I consider all other alien films action movies XD

Saw I & II and Seven (more psychological thriller, but it works).
Saw III pushed the gore limit a bit too far for my liking.

I loved The Exorcist. But it didn't scare me and I'm a big baby when it comes to horror stuff. The Ring scared the shit out of me. Only because the night I watched it my friends pulled a very elaborate and well thought out prank involving a giant basement with huge windows overlooking woods, a short friend with long black hair, and calling my newly bought cell phone whose number I didn't give to anyone. Very traumatizing for a 12 year old.

Honestly, I don't think any horror movies should try to be cult or truly scary... everybody knows that's for thrillers only. Horror movies must be B productions, and that doesn't mean they should be shitty or anything -- I absolutely love B movies. It's just that very few manage to give you real goosebumps.

That said, let us move on to Kaelus' list of memorable horror movies. Top ten only.

1. The Blair Witch Project (surprised no one has mentioned this one yet!)
2. The Exorcist
3. The Ring (Japanese versions only, especially Ring Zero)
4. The Exorcism of Emily Rose
5. Monster in the Closet
6. Dawn of the Dead
7. A Nightmare on Elm Street
8. Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!
9. Night of the Living Dead
10. Piranha Part Two: The Spawning

1. Jacob's Ladder
2. Psycho
3. 28 Days Later
4. American Pyscho
5. Jaws

The worst "horror" movie I've ever seen would be: Ankle Biters ... it's about midget vampires, they used strawberry jelly as blood and you can see the seeds in the jelly...

so hard to choose...

I think I'm gonna have to go with dog soilders, it had a sense of humor, blood an guts, fear factor, an a great plot twist, maybe it didn't get quite the reception it deserved, its worth a watch for sure

Also since my post about the following was locked in the other scary movie forum (albeit rightfully) I'll repost:

I also liked the Bloody Murder films. Well actually no...the first one was God awful, but the second actually showed potential. It was actually an extreme slasher movie; the violence was really OTT (e.g. a guy being stabbed with a chainsaw and THEN having it turned on), the acting was a sight better than the atrocious first film and it actually came at you with an amazing surprise ending...
It had all the cliches of a slasher movie e.g. the slutty teen who gets laid, the slutty teen who doesn't get laid, the virgin teen, the black guy (who actually has a halarious conversation with the Steen who doesn't get laid about which stereotype would be killed off if this were a slasher movie) etc.

SAW = AWESOME!

The second was was not as good as the first, but kept along the same theme though....

But I agree with kamikazebutterflies, Saw 3 was like BLOOD BLOOD BLOOD every 2 mins and there was little explanations...

The end annoyed me SO MUCH!

ARGH and the 4th one is coming out October 31st THIS year(OMG Haloween!) ...it better be better that the 3rd one, or I'll have to un-pledge my leigence to being a Saw fanatic...

I've seen Psycho, A pretty good (Classic) horror film...I SAW THE GRUDGE and could not sleep for a week... I watched it at 5AM with a friend on the day we saw Scary Movie 4 (My friend: No, you won't be scared, you'll see Scary Movie 4 and it won't be scary ^___^)

I was paranoid about the corners of every room/the shower for ages...

And I had to sit with my knees at my chin to make sure the grudge didn't try and eat my ankles...

Does Gremlins 2 count? It's not scary, but it IS a horror (comedy) movie.
