Which Grudge do you mean? The original film, or the version with Sarah Michelle Gellah in?
Because trust me the remake is a pile of crap compaired to the orignal version (Just like the ring series). And no :-P its not becauses im a Otaku... the film is just better before it got ruined :) in the remake :) |

I didn't see the original so I'm clueless as to which is better (I saw the remake with Sarah Michelle Gellar). Overall, The Grudge wasn't a great movie, but I'll reiterate that I found a few scenes disturbing. The Ring wasn't scary at all.
Honestly, when I watch a horror movie, my intention is to be horrified. Most mainstream movies don't do it for me (Slasher films are definitely short of the target). Perhaps Freddy Kreuger or Jason Vorhees is scary ... if you're 11 years old. I've tried watching Stephen King-based films, such as 1408 and The Shining and though they are classics (and better than slashers at scaring), they don't necessarily fulfill the scare I expect. The Exorcist was pretty creepy, I'll give it that (I've read the actual book by William Blatty and seen the film), but newer films like The Exorcism of Emily Rose are a definite fail. Interestingly, and some people might disagree with me on this, some of the things I have found to be scary are old episodes of Joss Whedon's Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. But, I watched this stuff years ago when I was younger so, just like slasher films, even this series may not be as scary for me now. Perhaps someone can name a movie that they genuinely found scary. (I'd prefer it to be North American, or English, but foreign is fine too). |

Of late many of the horror movies are overrated and still get money from the younger audience. I don't like them but at least go for quality, not multiple sequels, another spot where movies get the overrated tag often now (from the umpteenth Die Hard to Ocean to Rush Hour, and some of these are franchises I love but enough is enough).
As far as older movies I still don't think by American Film Institute standards Citizen Kane can still be the #1 movie of all time. Sure it's a bunch of elders' poll but it still is one of the standards viewed as "accurate and accepted" today. |

After watching Knocked Up and not laughing at all throughout the whole film (Well, okay, that's being a bit unfair ... I found at least one scene funny), I felt the film did not live up to the hype.
Indeed, the film is getting praise left, right, and centre but I don't think it's as good as people give it credit for. Thus, it's overrated in my books. |

Kill Bill (volumes 1 & 2) are actually a giant ritual by Quentin Tarantino (obviously a cinemamancer) and Uma Thurman to open up the Masterless Man archetype to women. The title Bill is Wild Bill Hickok, current Masterless Man, and Q & U are likely being guided by a renounced Miyamoto Musashi.

Most movies are overraed, because most of the commercial successes are crap.
Still, if you want a really overrated movie, it's definitely Jaws. I mean, it's one of the highest grossing films of all time, and not only is it not good, but it's exceptionally bad. Why it was so popular I'll never know (except that the general public has bad taste). |

I was really disappointed with Lost in Translation. It was one of those films where you want to bitchslap every character.
Also, The Nightmare Before Christmas. It seems that everybody's obsessed with it. I guess people who think of themselves as "outsiders" like to live vicariously through Jack, who is oh-so-popular because he's spooky. But he meets with no obstacles throughout the story. He's a guy who's bored with being the best, so he does something different, to be the best at that, and everyone goes along with him. There are no real repercussions of his actions, the villain is easily defeated, and then he gets the girl that he never paid attention to. It's all so...completely devoid of tension. And Danny Elfman shouldn't be allowed to write lyrics. ...Though I grant you, the animation and design are ajax-number-one-on-top. |

Pretty much every third movie in any trilogy, with LotR: Return of the King as an exception.
Movie 1: Set up plot, usually slow, also usually best (ex: Spider-Man) Movie 2: Everything set up, sometimes good movie (ex: Spider-Man 2>Spider-Man) Movie 3: Overhyped, cannot live up to hype. (ex: Spider-Man 2>Spider-Man>Spider-Man 3) Just my opinion. |

The Scary Movie series. I find the humor stupid and not funny at all. Not like the good Stupid funny, like there are WAY, WAY, WAY to many sexual jokes in the series.
Monty Python's the holey grail is a tad bit overrated too. I love the movie but it's overrated. |

Monty Python Anything
Boogie Nights Field of Dreams Wizard of Oz Quentin Tarantino Scarface American History X Matrix All I can think of at the moment. Not saying I don't like some of them. Personally Love Quentin Tarantino movies for their camp value and humor, Scarface wasn't 'bad' but neither was it half as good as it is claimed to be. Personally Carlitos Way and A Dog Day Afternoon were much better movies IMO. Wizard of Oz was good but just not what it should have been. I don't really get the appeal of Boogie Nights, but it wasn't bad. Also people have to stop quoting Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It isn't that funny, it never was and it get less funny the more I hear it. Field of Dreams just wasn't that good. Matrix I liked until 1: I started seeing all these skinny little white trash idiots dressing as Neo, then I had to tell them that it was Bill from Bill and Ted and they need to get a job, and 2: The Sequals came out. Like I said, the first movie was alright but everything after it pretty much sucked... except for parts of Animatrix. Also American History X was just bad. People just like it because it haphazardly says "racism BAD!" with no real logic behind it. I don't buy the Mickey Mouse racism that just turns every charicter into a cartoon thrown into a series of flashbacks full of logicless situations, poorly thought out plot points and characters. Also apparently Buttsecks makes you not racist anymore. |

Titanic Really annoying how they are always yelling 'Rose' and 'Jack' as if they're trying not to forget each other's names. I like the movie, but its not the greatest. Cars So boring...zzzzz Breakfest At Tiffany's I didn't like it that much, sorry. I love older movies, but I don't like that one. |

That is not the most awesome franchise ever known. Jason Bourne and James Bond are. They rock. Die Hard does not.
