The 20th Century Fox studio is expected to shoot three big-budget movies in Montreal over the next year; each has a budget of at least $100 million. The films are the Night at the Museum sequel Another Night, Independence Day director Roland Emmerich's remake of the sci-fi flick Fantastic Voyage and a big-screen adaptation of the Japanese manga Dragonball Z.
Another Night is the follow-up to the family film directed by former Montrealer Shawn Levy, which grossed $250 million at the North American box office last year. Like the first film, the sequel will once again be set at New York's Museum of Natural History and will feature many of the same characters, including the nightwatchman played by Ben Stiller. Robin Williams, who played Theodore Roosevelt, is also expected to be back. It is not known if Levy will direct Another Night. The screenplay was penned by Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon, the creators of Reno 911! and the screenwriters behind Balls of Fury. Email to a friendEmail to a friendPrinter friendlyPrinter friendly Font: The ironic twist for Montreal is that the first Night at the Museum was set to shoot here, and local crews had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars building sets at Mel's Cité du Cinéma studios. But the shoot was moved to Vancouver at the last minute to accommodate Stiller's schedule. Emmerich, who shot the 2004 weather-gone-wacko epic The Day After Tomorrow in Montreal, will be back in town for Fantastic Voyage, an update of the 1966 film that starred Raquel Welch. It is about a scientist who is dying of a blood disorder. A group of his colleagues attempt to save him by being shrunk down, put in a miniature ship and injected into his bloodstream. Emmerich's own company, Centropolis Entertainment, will be producing in partnership with James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment. Emmerich tried to make this film 10 years ago, but it didn't come to fruition. Dragonball Z is adapted from the manga created by Akira Toriyama; the work was also turned into a Japanese anime series that played all over the world. It tells the story of an alien sent to destroy Earth, who has a change of heart and decides to join the humans in their fight against various aliens and bad guys. There are no details yet as to when these three shoots will begin, but they are expected to wrap production by next July. http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news/arts/story.html?id=5d8321ec-4d55-40bd-ae6c-742949303ea9 What.The.Fuck. |

This rumor's been floating around on the interweb for years. I'm starting to wonder whether or not the project EVER existed in reality.

Have any live-action Dragon Ball films been made in Japan?

Don't think so, but a live action DB movie was made in China, one of the worst movies I've seen in a long time, but this movie is pretty old.
This should be pretty big, many people heard the rumor by FOX years ago then it was cancelled and a surprisingly large amount of people were angered by it. I mean Matrix Revolutions showed teh exact type of CG that could be used to make this movie for the final fight. I mean it wasn't good for teh Matrix, but it would definately work for DBZ. It should be even better now. |

I'm expecting Radizt to be killed off in the first 20 minutes, then the rest will revolve around the saiyan saga. Leave the rest to sequels...

A live action DBZ movie? It'll suck big time.

Yeah, I'm kind of curious as to what the actual plot of the movie will entail. Hollywood has a tendency to do a really poor job of adapting one medium to another (i.e. most Marvel superhero movies). In this case, not only are they attempting to translate a manga/anime (a different medium in itself) to the big screen, you also have to consider that it is from a different culture.
Bottom line: American comics are converted into movies that suck, you can only imagine what they will do with a Japanese manga. |

Case in Point: YuGiOh the Movie. And that wasn't even live action.
Still, I've been a DBZ fan for so many years that if this is the real deal i'll probably end up going anyway. It's sad, really. |

There is no Case in Point, no matter where the idea of a movie comes from, it will ALWAYS have an equal chance to be good or bad when it's being made.
Speed Racer is coming, it's an anime, it seems to be coming up nicely. |

Hmm, perhaps.
But history has shown us that the odds tend to favour the bad, especially for movies based off video games and comics. Surprisingly, movies based off books tend to be good. |

Books don't have a set image that they're supposed to follow, like games and comics. I mean LOTR speant 14 pages describing a room, but in the movie, it's one shot of beauty.

i dont see how a good live-action DBZ movie can be made....i just dont think it's possible

And it's already negative thinking like that will make you not like it, even if it may be good.

Well, i just dont know HOW it can be made...but, going with low expectations might actually make me enjoy the movie more.....worked with The Transporter 2

Not even low expectations made me like Aliens Vs Predator however it did work with Doom.

I was sure that Alien+Predators=instant awesomeness, but Paul Anderson proved me wrong -_-( i forgive him because of Event Horizon though :D)....Doom was alright

Having just come from Transformers...I'd say that if a similar effect were attained with DBZ it might be acceptable. There's little chance that such a loooooong story could be compressed well into a two hour movie, so we (the fans) msut hope for the next best thing: Really amazing fight scenes and inside jokes. Low expectations couldn't hurt either.

Knowing how badly the douchebags in Hollywood screwed up the all the DC Adaptations (besides Batman Begins), I predict several movies including an entire movie featuring yelling
|

|

|

They screwed those up because they picked horrible directors/writers/actors. Though I liked Tim Burton's Batman movies.
Also DC's animated movies>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>All their Live actions. |

|

|

Most comic animated movies>>>>>>>>over live action, it's much easier to do though.

Oh, how I pity the actor selected for the role of Vegeta - besides yelling, he always has the same pained expression on his face with a Sonic the Hedgehog hairstyle. It's a role that can kill an actor's career, I'm sure of it. <img src='/images/emoticons/smiley6.png'>

DC's animated movies are great. Return of the Joker and Mask Of The Phantasm>>>>>Most of DC's live actions.
Marvel's........not so much. Eww at their newest ones too. Ultimate Avengers was meh,Iron-Man was boring and Dr.Strange was the only one I've liked so far. |
