I can hardly believe it's that time again, but...it's that time again!

6 months ago, some of the best in the anime industry and their fans gathered in the Renaissance Center for 4 days of fun, excitement, and chaos.

Now....in 7 months...the chosen will gather once more!

...Phew, finally got that movie trailer voice out of my system.

On Thursday Nov. 3 @ 8 P.M. EST - Nov. 6 @ 6 P.M. EST, Detroit's prestigious anime convention returns once more to the Detroit Marriott in the General Motors Renaissance Center to rock your world!

They've got anime and cosplayers! (Duh) Dedicated tabletop/video gaming rooms! (How could they not!) aaaaaaand special events! (Like we didn't know that- wait whaaaaaaat?) What kind of events....you'll have to wait and see because I don't actually know yet! (friggin tease!)

I'll be updating this thread with any con information like panels, guests, and those super secret-to-everybody events as soon as I know about them and I'll be glad to try and answer any questions you may have (and no doubt get beaten to it a couple times by other forum members just like last year :V).

Until then...start saving up yen!

Thursday night's events are free and registration will not be needed that night.

WARNING: Make sure to have your State I.D. or Driver's License with you so you can get into the 18+ panels (in case you don't care, these aren't necessarily "Adult" panels, so just make sure you have it so you don't miss out on anything needlessly).

If you are under 18, make sure to print out the Parental Consent Form when it is available and have your parent/guardian sign it before coming to the con OR YOU WON'T BE ALLOWED IN. Don't let all your preparations be for naught!

Price sounding a bit too steep for ya? Arrange to have a room/ride share with some other con-goers through the Youmacon Forum to split the cost. Go here and make/respond to a thread to whoever suits your needs and see what happens. 6It'd help to get to know them through the forum and confirm their identity via Facebook, Twitter, etc while you're at it to make things go smoother. I tried it last year and it went perfectly.

Youmacon's guest roster includes anime/"game" culture-related actors (voice and live), musicians, singers, web celebrities, abridgers, and other stuff I can't think of, American or Japan-based.

But here's the thing: YOU get to choose lives and who dies- er, choose who you want to see this year.

Just sign up on the Youmacon forum, go to this thread, and leave a comment saying who you would like to see there this year (don't suggest TOO many please) and any anime/game related (and non-related) work they've done. If you're unsure, IMDB is your friend. So is Wikipedia.

lmao that was just an April Fool's joke. They always open their site on April Fool's Day but make it a joke site, then post the real one the next day. Should've gone all the way to the FAQ to find out about that one, lol. I was a little confused myself at first.

I love this con. I wanna go again this year, but it'll depend on my job and how much money I'll have. Maybe Banana will come with. :D

Also, last year Platinum registration was $100. Honestly, for getting to cut in line and be one of the first people in events, it's TOTALLY worth it. Sometimes these lines are so ridiculously long that you'd be hard-pressed getting into anything. If they put Team Four Star in a little room again (even though they SHOULD KNOW AFTER 2 YEARS OF MAKING THE SAME MISTAKE that they shouldn't do that, ever), good luck getting in at all. :P

But yeah. I wanna stay all 4 days this time. Should be basically amazing.

Hm. I didn't know they did it yearly, since before '09, I didn't check it until October, and before the '10 con I didn't start until the summer. Now I've been checking it almost every day since the last one ended. I don't even know what I've been looking for, seeing how it's so early and forum usage is pretty low over there. I found out about it a little later, but we switched to Futaba/4chan style for our April Fools before I could edit anything. I got screencaps of "You-Ma-Con" for anyone that missed it.

I should be working by the time next con starts. Maybe. I hope.

I'll need a full-time job before I can go to the con, I'm pretty sure. Yeah, almost positive I'll need one of those. Because when I don't get financial aid refunds for being a student, it's a little more difficult to come across huge amounts of money being given away, lol.

He's much more of a video game fan, but he likes anime. He told me once that he'd like to dress up as Mario for Halloween one year, so that's where the Mario/Peach idea comes from. Otherwise I'd cosplay Daisy instead.

ALSO, about Youmacon in general:

LittleKuriboh has mentioned that he will be going to much fewer anime conventions this year.

However, since Youmacon is one of his absolute favorite conventions in the US, if he can help it, he will be returning. Now I don't like making claims like this without really knowing the guy that well, but this is something that he mentioned previously in an interview, the same one that mentioned that he'll be going to fewer conventions this year. Youmacon, if he can help it, will not be one of cons he'll be missing.

So if you want to meet LK and/or Team Four Star, this con is the place to do so. The panels are awesome and you'll get to meet some cool people. (like me! :D)

Ah. I've been thinking about cosplaying myself, but I wouldn't know where to start. Maybe something like the uniforms they wear on Naruto or Full Metal Alchemist. Something generic yet recognizable.

2nd Comment: I would've mentioned that, but...I literally have zero doubt that they'll be returning at this point. ^_^

I'm still trying to figure out what that word really means. It varies from saying that you are one just for liking manga/anime up to being a fan who prefers anything from Japan and believes anything non-Japanese is automatically inferior. The latter sounds better in my opinion because that's definitely an incorrect ideal.

Either way, in this case, you shouldn't be discouraged from it just because someone thought of a derogatory word for this type of thing. Besides, you're going to a place specifically for this type of stuff, so no one's gonna call you out.

Yeah, I was there, you probably saw a friend of mine in a YnMalik cosplay. How weird, I talked to her about it afterwards, because I had looked for her after the panel but she said she had to leave right away.

It was a while ago, I don't really remember. There were lots of Marik cosplays. :P

Allison and I were sitting in the front left with ggbhtg and TitanAura. I remember when they talked about how Kroze's face was all over the forum and I remember shouting to them that they had to show everyone, but I think LK was like, "Yeah, no..." lol

I'm thinking of testing out this mini camcorder I got by going up to the Ren Cen to record a few vids/pics of the place so any new people will know the exact layout of the area. Would any of you find that useful? How much of the area in and out of the Ren Cen do you think I should cover?

Hey, I only knew about Youmacon because I was subscribed to BigAl2k6 and he's from Mt. Clemans. He posted a video about Youmacon 2008 and I was like, "Waaaaaaaaah? There's an anime convention over here?? I should tell people about this!"

Then I told Kroze about it, and maybe a few others did too, I dunno. But anyways, I told Kroze and he was like, "Tell the people in the thread where you suggest guests. And maybe we can get LittleKuriboh to come down too!" I severely doubted that would happen, but then it happened! So yah, the rest is history. :)

Case and point: when you know about stuff like this way ahead of time, and you talk to the right people and make the right connections, amazing things can happen. Woot!

Yes Rebbie does, but she doesn't use the site much these days. Yeah, it's more of a twist than those spiral honey bbq Fritos....that was an oddly specific metaphor. I think I need to eat something. :V
