The King's Speech
I think it'll be interesting to see people's opinions of this film. It is, of course a great film and it's nice to see Colin Firth get the recognition he's deserved for years (I hoped he'd win the Oscar last year for A Single Man, though Jeff Bridges was just as deserving).
As Kermode said, I think it's done well because it's a British heritage film and American audiences like that. For me, however, the film was ruined. Not because of the film, but because of the exposure it had. Before going into the cinema, I knew the storyline, I knew how good it was supposed to be, I knew everything about it, which meant I left rather unsatisfied. I wouldn't call it the best film of the year, but it was exceptional. What I also find interesting is that it received 14 BAFTA nominations and is culturally British and institutionally British and American while Kick-Ass received no nominations and is culturally American and institutionally British. But yeah, The King's Speech. Proceed with your opinions :V |

I really want to see it particularly because I want to be a speech-language pathology assistant, and speech/speech therapy is therefore very interesting to me. I hadn't heard of it until just recently, and I don't think I'll have a chance to see it until it's out on video, unfortunately.

A friend of mine went to see this film after hearing so many good reviews, and I have to say that it was very, very good. I enjoyed it immensely and didn't mind that I almost died on the way to the theater (I almost got run over because I didn't look before crossing OTL)
