She predicted that the jokes seen in Episode 24 would soon appear in another Abridged series... you know the one. It's true! I just saw Episode 17 of Naruto Abridged and one character (specifically, Tenten) is cut off by the openning sequence!

Wow I noticed that too. I think that LK knows what Vegeta3896 is doing...... <img src='/images/emoticons/smiley7.png'>

And yeah, I noticed that "Naruto: The Abridged Series" takes a lot of jokes from LittleKuriboh. What's sad is that they don't even try to hide it. They even use the exact same episode structure (intro, "opening theme", play episode, ending screen, and an additional clip at the end). Kind of sad, really. I think the part that bugs me the most about it is that while LittleKuriboh started something just for the fun of it, I get the feeling that the guys behind "Naruto: The Abridged Series" are doing it mainly for the popularity. Which, I guess if you're looking for instant fame, doing the exact same things to an even more over hyped series is the way to go. Hell, they even admit in the first episode: Quote:
Another thing that's bothered me in terms of their "voice acting" is that--oh come on! LittleKuriboh has some raw talent in voice acting. There's hardly any competition with the other Abridged Series when you get to that. There's also a huge difference between making your voices funny, and making them downright BLOODY ANNOYING AS HELL. Even if the main character is an irritating loudmouth whose teeth you just want to knock out. |

1. Unless you incorrectly cited it, the N:TAS creators were claiming to be more popular than Yu-Gi-Oh!, not YGO:TAS. 2. I think you might be taking it out of context. Mainly, it was just a joke ... I don't know how you can interpret that seriously in a series that's supposed to be a parody. 3. Though not directly related to the quote ... I think there's an informal rivalry, albeit friendly rivalry, between these series. This is because both creators have explicitely cited the rival's series in their own. In YGO:TAS, Yugi claims YGO:TAS is better than N:TAS in his duel with Pegasus. Obviously, this was a light-hearted joke. There are quite a few instances in N:TAS where YGO:TAS is cited (i.e. In the first episode, LK made a cameo as Yugi). In the Zabuza commercial, MasakoX while speaking as a voiceman subliminally tells the viewer to go watch YGO:TAS. Quote:

One thing I'd like to point out is that Tenten being cut off before the opening sequence adds to the on-going joke of her being insignificant and thus being ignored. This specific joke I would see as more of a coincidence than "stealing". Another point: Being attentive to both series, I noticed that in Episode 16 or 17 of N:TAS a joke was made about flaggers on youtube. In Episode 24 of YGO:TAS, which came out later, LK also makes a joke about youtube flaggers as well (via Seto Kaiba being the flagger). Does this mean YGO:TAS stole the joke from N:TAS? Personally, I wouldn't think so ... but the creators of N:TAS could definitely argue it that way. But they haven't. |

On a serious note, MasakoX used the same joke with Sakura in previous episodes (cutting here off when she says "now it's my time to shine")

Exactly. What's more, as I mentioned, MasakoX and vegeta3986 have yet to complain about this.

Eh, I figured that my opinion would stir some contest. But that's also exactly what it is: My opinion. And while I did put N:TAS on the spot, mainly it's because it is an Abridged Series that's more popular over the other copies. I don't care too much for the others that I saw, such as "Fullmetal Alchemist" or "Sailor Moon". I also noticed there's some for "Inuyasha", "Yu Yu Hakusho", "Avatar", and even more. Seems to be a growing fad.
One thing I'd like to mention is that, while my beef with the voice acting is a small one, it makes a huge difference in my opinion. LittleKuriboh's voice talents was part of what made his Abridged Series enjoyable for me. I was surprised to learn that he did everything himself, with the exception of his girlfriend/fiancé voicing Rebecca. So, seeing its knock-offs is kind of a disappointment. I'll admit that N:TAS is decently edited, but it probably helps that there are two guys working on it, not just one. Other than that...I've got to go so I don't have much time left to continue. Argh. |

The discussion here, as initiated by kimarous, is about N:TAS stealing jokes from YGO:TAS. So far gallabr12 and I have cited reasons for why we think this is not the case. I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me why, in fact, YGO:TAS didn't steal the character interruption, break into opening sequence joke from N:TAS as gallabr12 mentioned: Quote:

But, you do bring up a good point, and assuming LK was in fact talking about N:TAS, the joke did technically appear in N:TAS after Ishizu's prediction. But, now the matter of joke stealing is up for debate. For anyone arguing the joke was stolen, I will use the Sakura example as a rebuttal (again, thanks to gallabr12 for bring up this point ... I would have missed it). Quote:

Which brings us to ANOTHER YGO:TAS episode, It was Fanservice (episode). Sortof. Bakura finished his line, but the screen went blank.

Sorry, I didn't mean to start up a debate over "Who started what joke first". As I said before, I was only trying to poke fun at Ishizu's (the Egyptian oracle girl) credibility. |

I guess when you look at it a certain way, the jokes aren't really "stolen", given that I've seen things in various parodies where a character is "cut off" by the beginning or ending credits (they sort of did it in an episode of "Ergo Proxy" once). So it's kind of like a running gag.
