Season Zero, followed by the Japanese version, then the 'American', 4kids censored version.
Much as I love Yami as his noble self, there's something strangely fascinating about him going absolutely mental (thus the reason why my favourite arcs are Season Zero, Duellist Kingdom and the Orichilous (that's probably not spelt right ^^) arcs.) Somehow the role just seems to fit him. As for the Japanese over American part... Well, no offense to any Americans reading this, but as an otaku, anything Japanese automatically pwns anything from another country, including my own. :P. The Japanese version shows a more heroic and protective side to the character, making him and Yuugi appear more like brothers, whilst the American side depicts them as just 'good friends'.

Season 0/Manga version, hands down.
I tend to refer to him as 'The other Yugi' since... That's essentially what everyone else called him in the manga. None of this 'call me Yami' silliness. 'Other Yugi' or 'Dark Yugi' when it's the spirit in the puzzle, Atem when he knows his name. Whoo! I actually like to play on the Other Yugi/Dark Yugi deal when writing... If he's suddenly done something that makes his friends double take, suddenly he's referred to (in their minds) as 'Dark Yugi', ehehehe. (And lets face it, dark isn't necessarily evil... It's just dark.)

I saw someone make a mention to Atum. Very Clever! I just found out about that this semester at College.........as well as some other stuff in Egyptian Mythology that many wish that once they read it, they will wish that they would have just became an hero instead.
But Anyways... I actually like both. I've only watched up to episode 5 on season zero but I really do like the Noble version. I really think about who I can actually stand to be around. Like say for instance, MANY, MAAAAANY Fangirls will swear up and down that they would LOOOOOOVE to be Bakura's Girlfriend (or rape puppet, depends on which way you flow.... ) HOWEVER, Think past the looks and the angsty that comes with a particular character and about whether you can stand being in that character's presence for more than 45 minutes. I dont think I want to be in the presence of a psychopath for ANY ammount of minutes. I mean seriously, What happens if he doesnt like YOU??? Now I'm sure you can infer on what might happen next in that kind of given situation. (i.e: Shadow Realm, Steal your soul, A very harsh and hurtful STFU & GTFO) But I do know that Yami's Intentions are (i assume from the limited ammount of episodes Ive watched) well placed, reguardless of how Batshit insane they are. I just prefer Noble Yami better. In some obscure sense, He reminds me of a Great Lion. I guess that part is somewhat due to Dan Green though....

He's not a bad character, and he has his faults, I don't mean he's poorly planned out or anything (though I'd have liked to see some more depth in him), I just dislike the person he's made out to be.

American Yami and Japanese Yami are tied for #1. I prefer the manga version of Season Zero Yami over the anime one.
