Ya. Probably a shojo anime since I'm pretty familiar with shojo. That would be pretty easy to make fun of alot of stuff. That's if i had the equipment and the time/motivation to do so.

And it shouldn't...
The only thing that matters is you enjoy what your doing. People should keep on doing. Even if they're the only ones that like it. Support's nice, but these things should never be about glory, pampering, or what other people think. We've thought about one for a couple years. Might throw somethin' together soon... You know, I thought of making an abridged when I first noticed this fad... but understanding my limitation in the forms of parody, I've decided against it for two reasons: First - I just don't have the editing talent is required to make a good abridged series. While I could possibly edit something I made, re-dubbing and imaginatively re-cutting an Anime is really tough. It requires a perspective of the whole with an affinity for the small details, and I get caught up on the second part most of the time. This is really difficult stuff, but is essential to make a show universally entertaining, and if I can't do that well enough, I don't want to Waste my or your time.
My second reason really pertains to feelings on Anime. Most Anime I either like too much to find the flaws, or a hate too much to make a parody. The goal in making a parody is "flatter through imitation." If I don't love something, I have no business parodying it. This is why I stick to satire. In satire the goal is to make fun of something that you are neutral to, or straight up don't like. So, in essence, that is why I Will Never Make An Abridged Series. Not because I don't like them, but because I would suck at it. Now I know you guys don't want to just read why I won't make an Abridged Series. So, in spirit of the post I will give you: The Abridged Series That I Will Never Make And The Piss Poor Reasons Why I Wont. Darker Than Black: Because I'm Still Confused On What It's About. Batman: The Animated Series: Because I Can't Top Luke Skywalker. Trigun: Because The Power Ranger Jokes Would Never Stop. The Thunder Cats: Because The Idea Of Being Able To Make Cheetara Say Anything I Want Makes Me Feel Like A Furry. SWAT Cats: Because Nobody But Me Watched That. Full Metal Alchemist: Because Every Scene With Ed In The Pitch Black Dark Would Be Accompanied By A Pumping Hydrolic Sound Cowboy Beebob: Because It's Hilarious As It Is. Case Closed: Because I'm Still Confused On What It's About Jack "Aperio Contra" Shawhan. Satire Writer, Critic, and Yellow Belly. The Wasted Time. |

I toyed with the idea of one for about a week and got half way through roughing a script for episode one when I realized that no amount of drafts would make it funny. And I also made the mistake of setting my sights unreasonably high. I wanted to abridge "Star Trek: The Animated Series" for two reasons:
1) It is awesome. 2) I am old. But even if I could make it funny -- or even amusing just to me -- there's no way I could do the range of voices needed. I feel the characters are too well-known to be parodied without sounding somewhat like the actors. The thing is there's a lot of comedy potential in just the first episode -- it careens wildly from awesome to horrifying to retarded within minutes. It starts off equal parts "Event Horizon," "Alien," and "Jurassic Park," but turns into the standard "alien intelligence takes over the ship's computer" plot. On the up side there's a scene where the engine room tries to eat Scotty. And in the end the heroes learn that installing a computer-controlled phaser bank in the bridge ceiling aimed at themselves wasn't a great idea. Last edited by Boradis; 02-26-2011 at 07:15 PM. |

I could never make a Abridged Series because I can't actually do good voices myself. All I'm stuck with is a British accent (normal), a posh accent, a very bad Southern American accent and a (strange, and very badly done) annoying American accent... not sure what it is, but it's annoying.
I'm no good at doing voices, I'm good at imitating though... Plus, I can't write humour, and, I can't stick to a deadline, at all. I couldn't make a series, I wouldn't even be able to make one or two without going off and doing something else. I procrastinate way too much. |
