This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!'... and Gon's Balls will whisper 'First... comes... rock!' Hah! Made you stare at Naruto's Marshmallow! Pushing the logo off-center to drive TheOcean insane.

We don't tolerate that kind of talk in this thread...

So anyway, what kinds of LINUX are people running?

What's the point of even asking if you're merely censoring all the posts?

Windows is not LINUX this is a thread for LINUX speak... not an OS that loves to hog memory.

I know, but all I've seen so far of Linux was satirical at best, so I figured I would throw in a sarcastic comment.

Don't worry about me doing it again.

I've used Ubuntu linux on my laptop dual booting with windows before and now I have a large desktop and was wondering if Debian, Ubuntu, or another variant of linux would be better. Could someone help me please?

I use XP, though I have to admit that Linux saved my life on one occasion. My hard drive motor stopped working, so I managed to boot my computer from Linux on a flash drive so I could finish some reports. Very handy, actually. I always keep a Linux OS on a flash drive with me just in case something like that happens again.

No man is so foolish but he may sometimes give another good counsel, and no man so wise that he may not easily err if he takes no other counsel than his own. He that is taught only by himself has a fool for a master.

I've heard tons of complements about Linux but just how many versions are there and am I able to make it compatible with Steam and all of my PC games?

So then.... I guess I'm stuck with windows.... *sigh* and I was hoping to get out of the tortures of inefficient processing.... how about Vista? I know there's tons of hate for it but apparently it does multi-task better....? I dunno I don't use it.

In my opinion and with my experience with vista, it seems to be just like xp, only shinier, with Direct X10, and a larger hunger for memory. The memory hogging doesn't seem like much to me. I have a 600 GB Raid 0 array and it take 20 gigs. The only things I put on this array is my OS and my games, that's it. Even with Vista and if all my games take up 15 GB of space, I could install 38 games, and I never will be playing 38 games at a time.

Hm. That's reasonable. I suck up memory like a drunken whore but even with my habits I haven't filled up my 500 GB external drive that I've had for almost a year.

Really, the only thing that is bad about vista for me is that it takes up 20 GB of space, and those annoying cancel or allow things, but I disabled those.

You do not have Linux "installed" on your DS or Wii.

Linux is for obnoxious bigots who enjoy compiling more than actually using their computer.

I also see linux as a waste of good hardware, should the owner possess any. <img src='/images/emoticons/smiley5.png'>

Linux is more of a Hardware extender in my mind. Linux will definatly run better on older machines than windows xp/vista. Who owns a computer that old, my parents and the company ther run. My dad still thinks windows '98 is the best OS, good lord.

Windows 98SE is a good OS.

My PC doesn't suck so I can afford not to run linux. I'd probably rather run 98SE than Puppy Linux or DSL.

That's when you tell them their computer that they swear is still good and that they paid 2000 dollars for 8 years ago is now a worthless piece of crap and to buy a new one.
