Hurray for Death Note!
It was the first anime I watched where I loved the bad guy more than the good guys, and felt sorry for the bad guy for dying.

I realllllly don't understand the whole "OMG I LOVE MELLO" thing... He kinda scares me, to be honest, and he's not around much in the anime, so with his weird clothes and chocolate fetish his fandom just leaves me thinking "Whaaaat???" Anyone care to explain?

Yes mello isn't much in the anime, Mello and Near only appeared after L's death

Mello and Near are the candidates to be the next L

That's another fandom I can't understand: why is Matt so freaking popular? He's actually only seen for about a minute total, so... why???

I was a fan of both L and Kira... kinda makes it awkward when you can't decide who you want to win/live.

He was drawn to look "hawt" and in anime, hawt = fangirls.

I'm an L fan without question but some people on both sides are complete retards when it comes to "who was the superior genius" because the point was that they were perfectly even. I'd personally like to think that L was the superior intellect as to give him the edge in what he's capable of whereas Light's the perfectly sociable everyman who can wriggle himself free in a bind whereas if L was caught in the same situation, his own weirdness would bring him under suspicion and therefore fail. I'm also certain that more often than not, L fans are socially inept creeps like myself whereas Light fans are socially accepted normal people, or SHEEP as I like to call them.

Actually... When I was watching this I was too caught up with the story, and the Death Note it self. (If you guys notice whoever holds the Death Note the story will revolve around that person for a while) So yea... I didn't care about who lives and who dies XD yay story plot! lol

And the best liar/actor wins. I agree with the fact that Light has his advantages when it comes to the people around him. His manipulation skills are obviously epic.

You bring up several interesting points but let me be clear that it was a joke.... ok maybe only a little. It's simply fact that more often than not, people will side with the character that they can relate to so, as is my method of making purposefully broad assumptions with my own flavoring of scorn. I know not every shut in sides with L and scorns Light or sociably sane person sides with Light and vice versa. Sometimes it's simply deciding based upon their motives and methods rather than their personalities (which is perfectly valid).

I'd also like to point out that both sides had advantages however it's debatable as to who truly had the upper hand. Light had some pretty unfair advantages due to their supernatural aspects but because even those had limits, it wasn't as overpowering as some may believe. He DOES get trapped on several occasions because of those limitations. L, however, had just about everything else, i.e. resources. He knew EVERYTHING that could be known unless it was deliberately hidden by Light and that's how he was easily able to pinpoint the identity of Kira so soon. Catching Light red handed, however, is a different story. That's when the overly complex relationships between characters start to meld with the overarching plot and judgment calls start changing to comply with the new field of battle. The killing blow, however, was time. L didn't get enough time to follow up on his theories the moment he learned the method behind the murders was a physical object. Sadly, we will never know how it would have turned out had he been given the opportunity however it's amazingly good just as is and I wouldn't change a single thing.... ok I'd probably give L a dog named Watson, but that's it!

=True, True, though it does beg two questions:-

1=Doesn't the fact that it was light's brilliance which coursed L's lack of time, make that point a bit non-invoid though?
-(all be it dishonourable brilliance, which I have to say as someone will surely go next, "Light cheated to win", as if there are rules to this mind duel -_-)

2=Will the dog get killed by a deathnote?

-On point of Near/Mello I think the problem their characters both suffer from is that neither are as cool L, while writers almost try to make them both carbon copies of L, only they slightly exacerbated other personality traits of these two, over ones L' actual own character showed. (if makes sense, there all fundermentally the same, but each one has different trait within their personality highlighted into order to define them)
-And part of brilliance of DN is the relationship between L and Light, which neither Mello nor Near really ever possess

It's fine... in future though, if you're gonna make a thread, use the "search this forum" feature to check to make sure there are no threads already on the subject.
