That quote from earlier was the only thing I saw that meant anything that wasn't full of shit. I do not fear men generally, but it resonated with me because when you live near an urban area it is generally unsafe to walk alone at night as a woman because of rape and rape/murder and whatnot. Mugging is what happens most often, but mugging is still a form of dominance and while it is much less dangerous and scarring, it still sucks, and you are also more vulnerable as a woman due to being the physically weaker (for the most part) sex.

But 2 women were raped and murdered at my university within 5 years of each other. A couple of summers ago, a serial rapist was making his way around Ann Arbor, raping at least a dozen women. It is scary as hell to know that there are men out there who do stuff like that, no matter how rare they are.

I would like to note that the argument you're bringing up applies to society in general, though, Sally. There are plenty of unstable, violent sorts out there, both men and women. Further, given the advent of modern weaponry, physical superiority of one gender or another is fairly moot.

Not that I'm denying the core of the point you're trying to make, but this problem you're referencing applies to both genders. It doesn't matter how physically capable you are, all the person assaulting you requires to gain power over you is a trip to the gun shop. Everybody is potentially at risk to violent people of either gender.

This is very true. And I know of course that women are capable of exerting violence towards men. I unfortunately was related to a male victim of gun/domestic violence where his wife was the one who committed the violence. He didn't do anything wrong - it wasn't self-defense on her part, she was just mad at him. And she used one of his guns.

All acts of violence and force are about dominance, even (especially?) if that act was committed by a woman. Of course most men are not rapists or even potential rapists - most men wouldn't even dream of being that horrible. Most men are good enough to know that violence against women (heck, violence in general) is wrong. And there are women who are horrible. It is just that, there are more men than women who commit crimes, and due to the fact that women are more vulnerable than men in many situations, it is unfortunate that women have to be fearful of, say, one rapist roaming the city when there are thousands of men in that same city who would never resort to rape. In that scenario, the theoretical rapist has won a battle.
