They go quite overboard with a few of the points. The problem is any of those things on their own can be harmless or even a combination of them.

It is important to remember that just because someone’s speech,

So basically what they're saying is they're afraid of privacy. Privacy means that we are able to hide something. Hiding something means we don't want something to be seen. So what they're afraid of is the unknown. Therefore, they should be trying to arrest the future. Therefore, they should build a Delorean.

Killshot and Holy; both your statements are amusing and correct, but the problem is that Governments like the world terrorist, because one of those loaded words which most hear and do not really think about the meaning of, because it is easier to just go up in arms crazy. Besides people like having a boogey man to hate, because it gives them something to blame all their problems on.

Ironically My Name is Earl, had a great ep about this...how sadly apt that Earl gave good portrayal of this problem.

That remains one of the best episodes in the series because of how horrifically true it is. As I recall, Hal and Lois win over the neighborhood because they win a bratwurst eating contest. Immediately following the event that unites the community together in harmony, they start horribly insulting each other and the happy, mild-mannered families suddenly reveal themselves to be just as dysfunctional as the, uh, "whatever Malcolm's last name is"s.
