This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!'... and Gon's Balls will whisper 'First... comes... rock!' Hah! Made you stare at Naruto's Marshmallow! Pushing the logo off-center to drive TheOcean insane.

Heard there is going to be a new movie coming out. It's called "Gake no ue no ponyo" aka "Ponyo on a cliff" I don't know what it's about but I think it comes out next year.

^_^ they're really great films that really inspire the inner child in you~! what makes me even happier is that Disney takes a lot of care when dubbing them! the English is just as good as the Japanese in my opinion, if not better~!

my favorite is My Neighbor Totoro~! but i also liked all his other films i've seen~!

T_T i'm scared to see Grave of the Fireflies though... so sad...

Grave of the Fireflies is one of the best anime movies ever, let alone Miyazaki films, everyone should see it, that and Barefoot Gen, both are terribly sad, but amazing.

Myy fav Miyazaki film is Princess Mononoke, the best. Then after that it kind of merges into one big pool of awesome where at one point, Laputa is top, then Pom Poko, then comes Kiki's Delivery Service, than out rolls Spirited Away, then it's punched in the face by Howl's moving Castle, than shot down by Porco Rosso etc...

Personally one of my favorite anime movie makers of all time. He really does capture the audience with the visuals within his films. My current favorite is Princess Mononoke. =] But I think the first Miyazaki film I saw was like Spirited Away? I'm not sure but some film around that time. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chances to see the original Japanese Dubs so I can't really compare. =[ But the English is still great. Miyazaki forever. ^_^b

My faves are Spirited Away, Howls Moving Castle and Grave of the Fireflies (Which had Dan Green in it? I found that on Wikipedia, bt it's hard to believe.) I do love the English Casting, but even if all the voices were horrible, I'd love the films, they make me laugh and feel joyful and cry (IE grave of the fireflies)

Oh, I was thinking about Grave of the Fireflies earlier, it is really sad. But I'm glad I watched it. For some reason it took me 14 years to see it from the Japanese perspective. Howl's Moving Castle is my favorite though. I love it because it's based on a book by one of my favorite authors. I named my cat after Throgmorten in The Lives of Christopher Chant! We called him Morty though. But that's not the point. The point is, Miyazaki films ROCK. I can't wait for the next one. Plus I still havn't seen Pom Poko or The Cat Returns. Havn't found em in the stores yet. :(

that wasn't a Miyazaki film though. It was just a Ghibli film.

My favorite was Nausicaa.

I know, I even torrented it, BUT I prefer to see them in dubbed form FIRST. since they tend to be good. (Except that Nausicaa dub from WAY back when, that sucked. The Disney one made up for it though)

I grew up on a 1980's dubbed version of Laputa, which I prefer to Disney (even if it was done by John Lasseter and had Mark Hamill in it). It's one of my all time classic movies.

Sadly, I haven't got around to watching any of the others.

well, it's not so bad. sometimes watching the dubbed version first tarnishes my first impression of the character. Like that stupid stupid voice they gave Chihiro from Spirited Away..... I think she was supposed to be obnoxious and annoying, but still.... *beats Chihiro in a Bakura-worthy manner*

You're not a true Miyazaki fan till you've seen Sherlock Hound, perhaps the only Series he's ever done.
Imagine Sherlock Holmes with all the cast as Dogs, done for Children. It's a wonderful series with a strange story behind it....
What I have heard is that it was Originally done in English, because it was Intended for Italy and it was easier to translate that way or something. It makes no sense to me neither.
All I know is that my Sister got sent some tapes by mistake and I think we must have liked it, as we ended up with quite q few tapes of it. Fast forward many years, and I'm watching one of the Wolf/Lupin the Third films, Castle of Calagiostro (anyone got the correct spelling). There was a style to it that was strangely familiar. Specially the bit when a character does a swimming action mid-air or something. At first I thought I was thinking of Inspector Gadget, since it has an Inspector in it. Then, randomly I rewatched one of the tapes.... And a character did the same Swimming midair to try and catch up with the villain, unsucessfully. >ding< So that's where I had seen it before! And Behold, a little researched revealed both to be the work of Miyazaki(though not Studio Ghibli, at least Lupin wasn't). In the Lupin TV series, I think, one of the Laputa robots makes a cameo, apparently he had a fair bit of input on Lupin stuff.

Anway, seen a lot more Miyazaki work now. Spirited away, NausicaƤ, My Neighbour Totoro are a few of my favs, and that one that "The Cat Returns" was a semi-sequel to... and Kiki's Delivery Service..... Heck I love all his stuff.... (though The Cat Returns wasn't quite the usual Ghibli Standard).

Laputa also has a strange story with me....
I was watching it, dubbed as the Subtitled were the Hard of Hearing subtitles (A common problem with Studio Ghibli UK releases) and I kept recognising the Villain's voice, but couldn't tell where from. Then it hit me. "He's the Joker!!!!", so after the movie I looked it up.
...
.......
.........
"Luke Skywalker is the Joker!?!?!??!?!?!?!"

Something I noticed with his films is that he can easily do films where Nothing actually happens much, at least nothing epic, just life, with a dash of magic (something not even "Magic" magic, just the magic of life). These are still some of his most beautiful work though. And then, his epics are amazing too....

BTW, has anyone else seen that Lupin the Third film?
How about any Sherlock Hound (Great Detective, Sherlock Holmes in Japan)?

Well I just prefer to see them dubbed. I watch them both ways and don't let either tarnish my thoughts on either form, just like the dub.

My very favorite is Spirited Away, with Princess Mononoke hot on it's heels. Grave of the Fireflies is Takahata, not Miyazaki's, but it's really incredible.

I can't wait For 'Gake no eu no puyo', a goldfish princess and a boy she grows close to, I love the original premise! I sincerely hope there is no love scene though, I just don't think i could stomach the sight of someone making out with a fish. Even if they do have those nice, full, kissable lips.

I like dubs too (and I speak a fair bit of Japanese), all them Wapaneses need to shut the hell up and let us watch our remastered, Americanized fluff in peace.

I love Hayo Miyazaki. I loved him even before I knew he existed. XDDD WHen I was little I used to watch Kiki's Delivery Service 24/7. Now that I'm older, my personal favorite has got to be Spirited Away. I watched that and realised it was the same guy that made Kiki.

Me: Heeeeey. This animation looks familiar... *Gasp* ZOMYGAWD IT'S LIKE KIKI'S DELIVERY SERVICE! Kewl! :D

While not done by Miyazaki himself, one of my favorite Ghibli films is My Neighbors the Yamadas. It's done like a series of comic strips about this quirky family: Father Takashi, Mother Matsuko, Grandmother Shige, Son Noboru and Daughter Nonoko. To this day it is the only anime (barring perhaps Princess Mononoke and the awesomeness that is Gillian Anderson as Moro) that I can watch in the English dub without cringing. I don't like dubs as a general rule. I prefer to watch animes with the voices their creators/directors/whatever chose. But I like the Yamadas dub. And the movie itself is hilarious and very cute.

I saw Castle of Cagliostro... I keep reading that most critics, or die-hard Lupin fans don't like it. As I am neither, I don't understand, as I thoroughly enjoyed it. And Miyazaki did do a lot of work with Lupin III tv series. If I remember correctly, he even produced a number of episodes.

I've read about Sherlock Hound, and REALLY want to see it, but can't find it.

I have my own Laputa story too XD I was much younger and my friend and I had heard of the movie, and having just watched the US theatrical release of Mononoke Hime, were wondering when his other movies would be released, and if they had been, where to find them. We went into a Suncoast and were browsing the then tiny anime section when an employee approached us. My friend asked him why Laputa was hard to find (at the time) and he said that the title meant something dirty in Spanish and they didn't want to offend anyone. He wouldn't tell us what it meant, so we asked my friend's mom, who is Puerto Rican, and she just blushed and wouldn't tell our 11 year old selves... I had to look it up later. I don't know... I thought it was amusing.

As for my favorites, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle rank up there :D

(edit) Just adding that I prefer the Dubs too... I love how they use famous actors for it. High Quality stuff. (Also, whenever I hear a MasterCard commercial I get all "OMG ASHITAKA!!!1" like the loser I am XD)

Thats strange.
To be honest, as a die hard Lupin fan, "Castle of Cagliostro" was one of my favorite Lupin movies... Yeah I dont understand that either.

I can also see why "Die-Hard" fans might not have liked it, it wasn't quite as..... crude as the others, but that was part of why I preferred it really. It combined the usual Lupin antics with Miyazaki's beautiful vision. Like when the Inspector leads the Camera crew, pretending he thinks he is chasing Lupin, and "Oh I've seem to have happened on something else completely illegal! Oh My! Whatever will I do!"... etc etc, it was a wonderful film....
