What the hell? Of course they're still using their brains. The brain controls your body, not your heart etc. If anything, they're less likely to use their hearts than their brains. They're just not using all parts of their brains. If their brains are gone, they They would only be able to twitch pointlessly, their body parts unable to communicate properly. We would be entirely safe, as there is no way they would be able to put one foot in front of the other to move, or even realise they hunger for brains. They've just lost their HIGHER brain functions. Instincts are still stored in the brain I believe. So to kill a zombie, a head shot would probably still be your best bet, unless there's a parasite of some sort controlling the body now, in which case, go for that.
Heart shot? Heck no, they're unlikely to be actually breathing, hence why their bodies are rotting.If their bodies still show signs of "life", then it may work, but I would say the brain is not only an easier target, but more likely to work. I have a little more difficult job, since we don't really have any guns here. But I would need to act fast. First of all, I would pack all my money into the bag that has my DS, and quickly find a load of games. The Money is because other survivors will still be human, and money will be a surprisingly difficult habbit to kick. I would also take my Camera (for proof, in case the news had not spread around all that fast), and the tripod (about the only thing I can thing of that will be any good for whacking a zombie in my way. I would also get the Ethonal, etc, from my painting corner, and find all torches in the flat, my Mobile phone (and charger), post it notes (to write down my mobile number to post all round the place, for other survivors to find). Also I would grab any sharp objects in the flat (for cutting rope or anything blocking my path), some cables (fit hey do breathe, then we can strangle them, and you never know what else "rope" might be useful for), and take my tool box (bound to be something usefu), and any food I have left. And also grab my binliners, stuffing all my other bags into a single binliner, for easier carrying. Then I would rush to my place of work(in my car for once, even if it is 4 min walk away), hoping to catch my bosses there, as one has a Zombie plan themself, that includes a Military vehicle they have stashed somewhere (I am not making this up, they have an armored van that fits into their zombie plan, it isn't all that close though. I would suggest popping to the nearby Police station for help and provisions, if I caught them in time, or else go there myself if I missed them. Also go to Sainbury's for more supplies(if I did meet up with others, I would suggest spliting up to do these tasks faster), including Beer, derodient sprays and matches/lighters for a few makeshift grenades. Fire and Ka-blammy is my very best bet to kill a zombie. If I caught them, I would then follow their plan from then on, adding suggestions where I saw fit. Else my job is a lot harder. I would hope to find some Police still alive, and hopefully get help form them (the Police station is very close). Failing that, I guess I would drive around semi-aimlessly, with my radio on all the time, and a pen and paper to hand, to copy down any details I hear. I would also at some point try to phone home, and my Mum's mobile, etc. If I had enough supplies by myself, I would drive in circles on the motorway, provided, it was clear. Helicopter is going to notice a car driving in circles, and it is harder for zombies to catch a fast target. This plan is easier if I have a fellow survivor, who can drive while I sleep and eat. Trouble occurs when we need to resupply food or fuel. We would just need to be real careful. When we drive near a gas-station or whatever, rev up the engines. If zombies come attracted to the noise, drive away again. If nothing comes out, we proceed carefully to resupply. Hopefully 28 Days Later does not occur. If it does, then well bugger, my chances of being saved by the military are greatly decreased.

Well duh I know the heart is meaningless! I'm just saying, if re-animated from a dead state, wouldn't the brain functions have shut down? Well, in the case of a living person being zombified, I guess now that you mention it, head shots would be effective. However I think the original virus zombies who were previously dead would need more than a head shot to stop them. But ya, the parasite idea, some alien entity controlling the body was what I was originally thinking.

Reanimating is re-activating the brain. There is no way for a body to move in any way coherently without it. Heck I would imagine even if there was a parasite of some sort, it would still be using the brain to control the body, as the parasite knowing exactly all the right strings to pull sounds unlikely to me. But the classic idea behind Zombies is a reactivated brain controlling the body. The problem is the brain decays much faster than anything else, or at least the neural networks lose track of everything they had stored when the brain was alive much faster. Read Hubert West-Reanimator by H.P. Lovecraft. Not sure how accurate his science is, but the idea behind Zombies being as thick as two short planks is explained in it rather well.
Wait a sec. For the brain to reactivate, it would probably need blood pumping through it again. But if the blood is pumping, what stops it from all pumping out of the woundstill the body is empty? Zombies are impossible! Unless the blood is supposed to clot their wounds first. Yes, that makes a lot of sense, as it had probably started clotting in the veins too. And if your brain has less blood, it doesn't work quite so well. Or something. It all makes sense... Nevermind.

Well, all zombie science is bogus obviously, but that's not what this is about. I still wanna know if these zombies can see anything. The closest we have to zombification is Terry Hatcher vegetable woman! (ooh I'm gonna burn in hell for that one lol)

Yeah all of our knowledge comes from movies, so if it actually happens we shouldn't act like we know everything about zombies. I mean like, for example, a friend of yours is bitten, you shouldn't just shoot him in the head, you should get some proof that people that are bitten will turn into zombies.

I don't know my family so....yeah.....Thats not a problem. I have about 5 people I know damn well I will do all that I can to save though.
