This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!'... and Gon's Balls will whisper 'First... comes... rock!' Hah! Made you stare at Naruto's Marshmallow! Pushing the logo off-center to drive TheOcean insane.

i hate twilight. i continuously fail to see what's so good about this generic plot of a girl falling in love for the first time.

Bella is such a Mary-Sue and in the fanfiction world she's the worst of them all. Never popular till the story's plot, can cook, clean and self dependent. Her one true love is forbidden and she's little clumsy for that extra moé.
She becomes obsessed with Edward and forgets about her life beforehand. She has several guys wrapped around her finger and it just reminds me of a bad Yuu Watase manga.

Edwards mysterious is ok at first but the fact he doesn't show much personality makes me get bored with him.

i'll finish this rant with just that cause i didn't read past the half way mark in the first book. I perfer reading fanfiction over something like twilight.

I LOVE Twilight! To be honest, it;s not exactly really well written and the plot is sort of a little bit generic, but there's something about the books that's just amazing! I've read all four books and just saw the movie 3 days ago. And while I don't like Edward too much, I still love the series because of Jacob and Jasper!

Also, has anyone read "The Host"? It's also by Stephenie Meyer and it's (I think) even better than Twilight.

I've heard The Host is better than Twilight as well. By older Meyer fans like me, that is. I want to read it.

I loved Edward in the first book (mostly because of his creepiness -- I thought he was hilarious), but then he kinda went "eh" by Eclipse. He redeemed himself in Breaking Dawn so it's all good I guess. Well, technically he redeemed himself in the middle of Eclipse when he was like, "I won't make you stay away from Jacob anymore" but even after that I felt like my former love of him just went away and couldn't come back unless I reread Twilight or read Midnight Sun.

The books themselves are a compelling read and they really make you want to know what happens next, I find. Even if the plot sucks. *coughBreakingDawncough*

I wouldn't want any Twinerds kicking my ass (tch, I'd like to see you try), but I seriously think the whole series is SO overrated. It's like just another long ass Mary Sue -fanfic, where the author has fell so in love with her(/his) female main character as to give the whole damn thing multiple sequels. Edward & Bella get married, Bella gets pregnant, they live happily ever after with their daughter... What the hell? Stephenie Meyer might be a tolerable writer, but the lame plot fucks up any chance the series might have when it comes to becoming actually a relatively "okay" piece of literature.

Eh, your opinion has been said a thousand times by other haters.

Hopefully Twilighters will be used to the criticism by now. If not then either they're new or they don't know when to quit an overly repetitive argument.

@metroid: Actually there are plenty other authors who have "favorite words" and use them over and over again in stories. If that's how they flow then that's how they flow. If you don't like it that's OK, but there are people who do and it doesn't make them any dumber than the people who don't.

Aww, we're really just trying to teach you some good judgement skills. Some idiots better learn from us that the plot sucks before they go around squealing about how 'inventive' and 'skilled' of an author Meyer is.

I don't think that the books are the greatest thing ever, if that's what you're implying.

They're just a fun read. There are definitely better books out there. Nothing wrong with reading them just for fun and enjoying them.

There are some interesting literary elements in them. Not enough to make them "great literature" I suppose, but it's not all garbage.

I definitely was not a fan of how it all ended. The plot went away after Renesmee was born and turned into an anti-climatic thing where a billion characters you can't keep track of were introduced and they all lived happily ever after without developing the characters. It was just a bunch of stuff happening.

Ah, they got a new film cover for the book. I don't like it when they make another version of the book based on the film. Mostly because the book was turned into a film and I don't think the film should affect it that much. But, in this series, the cover over the books were some symbolic and important I think... and now they've just stuck Edward and Bella on the front.
The only book, that was turned into a film, they haven't done this to is Harry Potter.

I read Twilight for the first time this week, and I just didn't like it. No offense to fans, but Bella just seemed like the worst possible sort of Sue I'd ever seen-- pretty, popular, with a few "endearing" faults like clumsiness, and a low self-esteem so the rest of the characters spent the entire book telling her how wonderful she was... Edward's rather a Gary Stu himself, for that matter, with the way he's good at everything and always swoops in at just the right moment, and tragically struggles with himself over his emotions.
This is the first movie-based-on-a-book I've ever seen that I liked better than the book itself, because it toned down the Sue-ness a bit. (Although I think the special effects could have been cooler.)
As for the rest of the series... I don't know if I'm going to read them or not. I'm certainly not going to spend money on them, though I might check them out of the library if I'm bored.

That is the first time I've heard someone who liked the movie better than the book.

I guess that is a good thing about the movie -- they don't spend the entire time calling each other perfect.

Thing is that I learned quickly that Edward isn't perfect at all... in fact he's rather creepy and psychopathic... which is what I liked about him in the first book. Then in New Moon he made the mistake of leaving, and in Eclipse he's an ass about not letting Bella see Jacob for the first half of the book.

Jacob was awesome in the movie, I thought. In fact his and Bella's chemistry just... existed more than Edward and Bella's.
I'm pretty excited to see him in New Moon, the more I think about it. A lot of what I didn't like about the Twilight movie was the fact that they rushed through Edward's and Bella's development. It didn't make as much sense, you know?

Yuu Watase manga is great! I'll have you know that Alice 19th and Absolute Boyfriend are two of my favorite mangas!

(Though the other day I was thinking of how Twilight and Absolute Boyfriend are similar, with the main female character having to pick between two good things: a super-awesome/superhuman boy or a more normal boy who's been her friend since, like, forever.)

In any case, I am offended!

I'm deeply ashamed, but I really do like this series, probably because I read the first book before it got huge and became a thing for 15-year-old girls.

I feel like I'm too old to like them, though, so my friend and I are going to wear fake mustaches to the theatre.

I'm older than most of the fans too (I'm 19, will be 20 in 5 months...)

At least the haters can see that there are sane fans out there.

Well, most girls ARE self-dependant. And it's a book, it's supposed to be dramatic and over-played or else it'd be boring.

I went to see the movie twice...

Was it just me, or in the scene toward the end, with the fight between Edward and James... when Edward was holding James up against that pillar at the throat... was James bleeding?

That would be a very silly oversight on the directors part if he was.

You deserve a cupcake for pointing it out though

I think he was. There was this big gooey red spot on his lip. It looked like he was bleeding at the lip.

And I think during one of the scenes in the cafeteria, where the Cullens were off to the side and kinda out of focus, Emmett was munching on something.

And Laurent couldn't have been black. He's a vampire. >> He should have been white. No offense to black people, but seriously. Twilight vampires are pale white.

Yeah, I thought that was an... interesting choice in Laurent. I mean on one hand it was cool, but on the other hand it doesn't make a whole lot of sense...

I didn't want to waste my money seeing the movie. I saw good bits and pieces online. The first 45 minutes and the baseball scene.
