We read it in class in tenth grade; which is prabably why I prefered 1984, which I picked up in my own time.

I personally read it on my own and have been kind of touchy about whether or not to read 1984. How is it? :O

Where Animal Farm is an analogy for Communist Russia, 1984 is a theoretical communist everywhere. The ending is rather confusing and disenheartening, until you read the piece at the very end of the book.

I read this in the twelfth grade last year, I also chose history as one of my subjects and it just happened to deal with Russia and the Cold War and that whole era. So pairing the historical knowledge with the book made it quite interesting. I'd just like to read it again without worrying about studying it.

George Orwell is such a wonderful writer :3 If I hadn't read Animal Farm in my sophomore year, I don't think I would've ever picked up 1984. It is such an amazing novel. I wrote a paper on Utopian Society in modern literature using 1984 and Aldous Huxley's Brave New World and kicked ass with it 8)

I love Orwell's style. Animal Farm was classic, however I found it a bit hard to get through at some times- a bit slow, really. However, it always sticks at the back of my mind. I got way into 1984, and Section 3 got me really thinking about my own issues due to the (perceived, not intended) homoerotic nature of O'Brien's torturing. The one I most enjoyed as of yet would have to be Keep the Aspidistra Flying since I laughed my head off given Orwell's colorful past. It also kept me going when dealing with my own monetary hardships, so it holds a lot of sentimental value for me.
