Yes it is. Of course, shitty copyrights holders still sue, even when they reasonably know something is protected by fair use, just to silence those that can't afford a legal battle

really, about the only thing he could do that wouldn't be satire would be if he made his own series and continued the story (that would be a fanfic-in-video-form), and even then it might still count from a legal standpoint, otherwise fanfic writers/hosting sites would get sued into oblivion

Well, In Japan, Kuriboh would totally be able to sell the game for a profit and the right holders of the YuGiOh Liscense wouldn't do a thing about it.

It's part of the thriving Doujin scene. But in the US? *shrugs* It's really a wild guess, as Face said, They could still sue. They wouldn't win if Kuriboh fought for it, but the legal fees would be extremely steep.

This brings me back to when everyone on fanfiction.net would put 'Disclaimers' in their summaries or the beginning of their fics that they didn't own the characters or series or anything.
