Everyone, we are losing our main server, Thelema. Without Revver paying is regularly we cannot afford Thelema's rental costs. Thelema barely runs the site and including the forums due to the inefficiencies in the site(As you can tell every time that there's a BAR race), and our second, less powerful, server Hastur will not be able to run it. This past week we had to accept the reality of the situation and come to a decision on the future of the site.

When faced with the death of the site we came up with a plan that should hopefully allow us to keep the site up, and still have a forum for the community. The main page and episodes page(these two pages get most of our 'hits') will be hosted on Hastur, and I've offered up my own personal server to host the forums (the forums are the most database intensive part of the site). Splitting up the load should help us deal with the fact that we are going to be using less 'powerful' servers, and everything will still be under the same url.

However, my server is no where near as 'powerful' as Thelema, and it will not be able to run the existing forum software even with the load split up. We have to migrate the forums to different software which will allow it to run more efficiently. But, given the very short notice we have before we lose Thelema, the look and feel of the forums will be VERY DIFFERENT until we are able to customize it. And it may run kinda rocky for a while, until we are able to properly optimize the server and the software.

What does this mean? DON'T PANIC. We are moving over as much data as possible to the new system. I've been working to create scripts that will transfer data from our existing forums to our new forums. YOUR USER ACCOUNT, AND MOST OF YOUR POSTS SHOULD BE TRANSFERED. I already have the user account transfer working, and am almost there with the threads/posts. After that I will look into transferring blogs.

When this happens sometime in the next few days, the forums will be turned off, and I will begin to migrate data over to the new site. It may take 6 hours, it may take 2 days, it depends on what problems pop up. We will try to give you some warning beforehand as to when this is going to happen, and while it is happening we should have a page up explaining everything, giving you updates, and probably a chat window.

When the new forums are up we will have threads in the help forum if you have problems and at times we should be available in chat. Also, when the new forums are up we need you to go into your account settings and enter in your birthdate. This is to make the site compliant with US law. We are required by law to ask your birth date, and if you are under 13 get approval from your parents for you to participate on this site.

In summation: Forums drastically changing, don't panic, in time we hope to make the new software look as much like our current site as possible. It was either make this change or shut down the site.

Not really... Revver is INSANELY behind on their payments right now. Certain staff have been having to pay out of pocket to keep the site up for as long as they have. From what I know, they tried everything to keep stuff as is but eventually the strain got to be too much.

Yes, thanks for making it an easier transfer, and I'm sure we won't be to bothered if we lose a couple of posts or blogs, you are trying your hardest. Transeferring all the information would be very hard I can imagine.
If Revver ever actually pays up, do you think you'll be able to get your pages back from Thelema? Or would have have to transfer it all from the new forum back here, which could result in losses of threads, posts, etc?

I know that that would be pretty lucky if Revver could suddenly cough up the money... The only thing is, is that if Revver aren't providing money, couldn't that mean that they're going through trouble and could completely collapse, which would be an utter disaster?

Anyhoo, I'm sure you're doing all you can. I don't doubt that at all. We're all grateful for what the staff has done, especially Face for letting us use his personal server until the eventual death of the current forums :)
