This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!'... and Gon's Balls will whisper 'First... comes... rock!' Hah! Made you stare at Naruto's Marshmallow! Pushing the logo off-center to drive TheOcean insane.

...It's my favourite animated movie therefore there needs to be a thread, Discuss, post fanart, funnies, music videos and what not here. I'd go into a huge-ass discussion about why Ariel is my favourite character ever but I can't be bothered to right now at this time.

Under the sea~! Under the sea~!

And no you may not bring up the scariness that is the music from Kingdom Hearts 2.

I have a special fondness for TLM seeing as it was the first real movie I connected to emotionly...The Lion King is awesome but sadly enough I didn't cry at Mufasa's death until I watched the musical o.o It felt kinda weird.

Not my fav Disney movie ever, but it sure is a classic. Don't think I'll see the Broadway musical though.

Love all Disney ergo love the Little Mermaid, kinda freaked out though by the fact she gets married at 16. Although I did sing a whole new world for my Junior Cert (aka GCSEs or whatever your having yourself, exams at about 14/15) music practicle and I got a B so I couldn't have been too bad!

Did you know that Walt Disney was an outspoken anti-Semite? I generally try to stay away from Disney movies . . .

I agree with PhantomFan, I would completely understand that there are drug refferences in Disney movies. It seems so obvious *sighs*

I agree with Darth on some things, like the whole "Drug" Thing. Here's my take

7 dwarves=no subliminal
Lion King=SEX is written in the stars, but only for like 5 sec.
Alice=all about drugs! Cocaine in drinks(Mad Tea Party), Hash(Catipliller), LSD(Pretty much the whole damn thing.)
Aladin=sorry, but it's so hard to understand the line being refered to it sounds like Kenny from South Park.
Wikipedia=not reliable source.

BOOM

lol why are you sorry? Toy Story was okay... but the the more recent Pixar movies where couldnt compair to some of the classics.. ( In my opinion that is)

"Alice=all about drugs! Cocaine in drinks(Mad Tea Party), Hash(Catipliller), LSD(Pretty much the whole damn thing.)"
Have you read through the looking glass? Disney did not write Alice, hense thewierd style. The original book was written under the infulence of alot of drugs. The videogame that came out in the in the 90's was probally more true to the nature of the book.

The fact is Disney just used stories or ledgendds that already exisited. I amdmit its not original writing, but it has to be better about just contuing to make 3d animated movies about things that cant talk bieng like people.

Toy story
Toy story 2
Cars
Antz
Finding nemo

I admit they might have some good movies that are different, but they are few in number.
----

Hence why im half expecting Pixar to make a movie called "Staple movie" base around talking office furniture that seems to be just normal office furntiture whilst around. Hell lets make the cast out of :-

a main guy being a Blue stapler

a PINK female stapler as a love intrest who the main character has to save

A office desk toy as the main guys best friend voiced by a comedian who is really not funny (people love bad jokes)

The bad guy is actually a new computer system that wants to make all the other other office equptment redundant so he can have the humans all to himself. He has a gang of USB fitted office euptment to do his bidding in the real movie.

Matt damon features as the voice of the old but wise Photo copyer

This movie would include high speed action scenes that you would not think possible from office stationary including the cast jumping out of the window in a 360 matrix like scene (since its the done thing now), and some how ending up in another office where they save the pink stapler from the even network system and his gang of USB pencil sharpners. This would be an epic film that would somhow win several major awards even though I just came up with the same crap that Pixar came out with in alot of thier movies.

At the end of the movie,
there is a hearrt warming scene where the office toy is shownn with a new office toy (his lover found mid movie)

The stapelers have kids in the form of baby staples sleeping nicly in thier box

The Computer system does not die, but realises everyone can get along after learning from the Stapeler the joys of friendship over evil.

At the very end the photocopyer tells a VERY lame joke, everyone laughs and credits roll....

(Pixar then get rich of this crap and decide to start a new movie based on talking ducks)

Hey Safty, did you know that they're making a third Little Mermaid? Not sure if you might have heard about that.

They're not sure if they're ever going to release it. It's a prequel to the first movie. Very.... interesting.

Yup I know of it, It's going to be released in August...I wantto see it but uuugh Ariel looks soo off-scale it kinda outs me off watching the damn thing. But seeing as I'm a huge-ass Ariel fanatic I'm willing to give it a try.

Also the weird dreamy ass look she gives Sebastian in the trailer creeps me out, it's like she's coming onto him.

Have you seen The Little Mermaid on Broadway? They so flirt with each other in that. Scuttle's kind of loose in that production, too. If you haven't seen it, and are an Ariel fan, it's AWESOME, though.

I wasn't a huge fan of The Little Mermaid II ( except for that song "For A Moment" ) - Melody and I don't mesh well together. What's really funny is if you ever meet Ariel or Eric at Walt Disney World and ask them about Melody, they have to pretend they have no clue what you're talking about. It makes me smirk.

She does look offscale, the whole movie does. I hate when the animators try to be vintage - it looks so cheap. At least they got Jodi Benson to do the voice again. I personally think it looks like they put together a bunch of episodes of The Little Mermaid from Toon Disney and made a movie out of it.

It's annoying how Disney movies stray from the plots of the original stories. TLM doesn't actually end like that. Nor do most of the other Disney films: Hercules, Hunchback, etc. The music makes up for it though.

The Little Mermaid's ending was extremely depressing and really not good at all.

You can't blame Disney for making movies have happy endings. I'd rather watch a movie with a happy ending than have the movies end as their liketitled fairy tales, sometimes a bit too depressing or dissapointing. In a world full of so much sadness and hate, it's good to have happy endings, I think.

The Lion King was based off of Hamlet, and that didn't end happily either. Jack and the Beanstalk wouldn't have been as good of a story if Jack had been crushed by the giant. If Jack and Jill ended with the fact that Jill got cranial damage and Jack broke his arm, it wouldn't be that fun either. Sometimes it's just better when things end happily.

But yeah, the music does rock. ^_^

I didn't watch The Little Mermaid or any other Disney films until I was about 12. That might be why I hate them so much.

Changing the plots of the original stories is not justified, and Disney doesn't have the right to do it. It's like claiming that they know better than the original authors of the stories, and that really irritates me. I also don't think that censoring and altering stories is necessarily good for children. It's the same argument I use about 4Kids. Children aren't stupid, and if they find out that they've been lied to or that the stories they've been told have been changed to make them "more appropriate", they will be very pissed off. At least, that was what I was like as a child. I prefer the truth over a pretty lie, and the original story over a sugar-coated replica. Even if the original story has the little mermaid dissolving into foam. At least she becomes an angel, right?

...Lol, I'm so going to get flamed for that. <img src='/images/emoticons/smiley2.png'>
